FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT March 5, 2017 +JMJ Dear Friends, The sacred season of Lent is here. Two things: The first thing is to persevere! Anyone can come to Mass once on Ash Wednesday. It takes a Real Catholic™ to persevere in their Lenten practices for the whole forty days of Lent. I know that many of you are off to a great start, really living out your Catholic faith and making great sacrifices of love in terms of your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The second thing is that it is not too late(!) to start or do something for Lent. This is the First Sunday of Lent and so it is not at all too late. Take up some serious practices in terms of your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Even if you have already had a "mess-up," or a fall, and even if you have already failed to keep your Lenten resolutions, don't give up and pick back up and keep going for the whole season. This is the time of grace and conversion. So expect the devil to be there too-- trying to stop and prohibit you, making it seem like it is all just too hard and not worth it. "If you want to serve the Lord, prepare your soul for temptation" (Sirach 2:1). Isn't that what this Sunday teaches us? Jesus himself was tempted and had to do battle with the devil. "Our pilgrimage on earth cannot be exempt from trial. We progress by means of trial. No one knows himself except through trial, or receives a crown except after victory, or strives except against an enemy or temptations.…Jesus suffered death in your nature, but by His own power gained glory for you; therefore, He suffered temptation in your nature, but by His own power gained victory for you. If in Christ we have been tempted, in Him we overcome the devil. Do you think only of Christ’s temptations and fail to think of His victory? See yourself as tempted in Him, and see yourself as victorious in Him. He could have kept the devil from Himself; but if He were not tempted He could not teach you how to triumph over temptation." Se necesita ser un verdadero católico TM para perseverar en su practica durante los cuarenta días de la Cuaresma. Se que muchos de ustedes están listos para un gran comienzo, verdaderamente viviendo su fe católica y haciendo grandes sacrificios de amor en términos de su oración, ayuno y caridad. ¡Lo segundo es que no es demasiado tarde! Para comenzar o hacer algo durante la Cuaresma. Este es el primer domingo de la Cuaresma y por lo tanto no es demasiado tarde. Tome algunas practicas serias en términos de su oración, ayuno y caridad. Incluso si usted ya ha tenido una caída, e incluso si usted ya ha fallado en mantener sus resoluciones durante la Cuaresma, no se de por vencido y levántese y siga adelante durante toda la Cuaresma. Así que esperen que el diablo también este allí… tratando de detenerlo y oponerse "Hijo mío, si te propones servir al Señor, prepárate para la prueba" (Sir 2:1). ¿ No es eso lo que nos enseña este domingo? Nadie se conoce a sí mismo si no es tentado, y nadie podrá ser coronado sin vencer, ni podrá vencer si no hay lucha, por falta de enemigo y tentaciones…. Jesús sufrió la muerte en su naturaleza, sino por su propio poder gano la vida para usted; por lo tanto, que sufrió la tentación en su naturaleza, sino por su propio poder obtuvo la victoria para usted. Si en Cristo hemos sido tentados, en Él venceremos al diablo. ¿Cree que solamente las tentaciones de Cristo y no pensar en su victoria? Véase como tentado en Él, y verse a sí mismo como victorioso en Él. Él podría haber mantenido el diablo de sí mismo; pero si no estuviera tentado no se podía enseñar cómo triunfar sobre la tentación”. (~San Agustín). Lectura del Santo Evangelio según Lucas:
En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, el
hermano de éste, y los hizo subir a solas con él a un monte elevado.
Ahí se transfiguró en su presencia: su rostro se puso
resplandeciente como el sol y sus vestiduras se volvieron blancas
como la nieve. De pronto aparecieron ante ellos Moisés y Elías,
conversando con Jesús.
Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: "Señor, ¡qué bueno sería quedarnos
aquí! Si quieres, haremos aquí tres chozas, una para ti, otra para
Moisés y otra para Elías".
Cuando aún estaba hablando, una nube luminosa los cubrió y de ella
salió una voz que decía: "Éste es mi Hijo muy amado, en quien tengo
puestas mis complacencias; escúchenlo". Al oír esto, los discípulos
cayeron rostro en tierra, llenos de un gran temor. Jesús se acercó a
ellos, los tocó y les dijo: "Levántense y no teman". Alzando entonces
los ojos, ya no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús.
Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les ordenó: "No le cuenten a
nadie lo que han visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre haya resucitado
de entre los muertos".

Todavía estamos muy seriamente necesitados de ministros eucarísticos para nuestra Misa en español. Por favor, las mismas personas tienen que hacerlo cada semana. Por favor ofrézcase de voluntario. No es difícil y no toma extra de su tiempo para poder hacer este increíble ministerio. Por favor llame a la oficina de la parroquia al 575-763-6947 y deje su nombre y número para que sea entrenado y lo pongamos en el horario.
Clases de bautismo
Estamos muy contentos de celebrar los bautismos aquí en español. Para bautizar aquí tienes que 1) obtener y llenar los papeles, notando que la forma para los padrinos debe ser firmada por su propio párroco. 2) asistir a la clase de bautismo que tenemos aquí en español el último sábado de cada mes a la 1pm. Así que el próximo será el sábado, 25 de marzo a la 1pm aquí dentro de la escuela en el salón 1. 3) Llamar a la oficina, 575-763-6947, para hacer una cita con el Padre Simón o el Diácono Juan. En la cita vamos a trabajar con usted para fijar la fecha del bautismo; las fechas son flexibles. Haremos todo lo posible para programar el bautismo cuando mejor funcione para usted y su familia.

couples wanting to get married in the Church but the
class is open to all and all are encouraged to come. It
is free and the presenter is very excellent and
engaging. In a world plagued by contraceptive
mentalities come and learn about the Church’s very
powerful teaching of marital love

The food pantry operates every Saturday of the month. Anyone
interested in volunteering, please come at 8:30 am!
We are also very much in need of volunteers every Friday
morning to help prepare for the food pantry on Saturday.
This is a truly beautiful ministry, an essential part of living the
Gospel and really helping many in need here in our community.
The Food pantry helps literally hundreds of families in this area.
