The Seventeenth National Congress on Corrosion Control will be organized at CSIR-CECRI, Karaikudi, during 21-23, August 2014.
This congress aims to
vanalyze various industrial corrosion problems
venrich knowledge on corrosion through meetings & discussions focusing on corrosion related issues and solutions and
vprovide a platform for interaction between industrialists, scientists and professionals to enhance the state of art knowledge in “Corrosion Science and Engineering”.
NCCI provides a forum for the presentation of industrial problems and ideas derived from current research in various topics on corrosion. It provides an excellent opportunity for sharing of knowledge, solving industrial problems and promote budding entrepreneurs.

This conference will involve both invited and contributed presentations from experts and eminent personalities who are working on corrosion and its control.
There will be a separate scholar session to encourage bonafide research scholars.
The abstract should be limited to 200 words. The technical committee shall review the abstracts of all the contributing papers and select them for oral / poster presentation during the conference. Accepted papers will be published.
The technical committee shall evaluate all contributing oral and poster papers. Awards for the best papers in various categories will be presented during the valedictory function.
v For thesis on Corrosion Science and Engineering for the degree in the following categories during the academic year 2013-2014. Category 1 : Ph.D Degree.Category 2 : M.Tech/M.E./M.S. Degree. Award: A Shield, Certificate and cash award of` 5,000/-
v Those who are having contribution in the field of corrosion science and engineering on monitoring, testing, evaluation of materials and basic research / development work can apply. On the basis of publications patents / process the winner will be honoured. Award: A Shield, Certificate and Cash award of ̀ 10,000/-
v A Scientist / Professor / Researcher for his / her life contributions(25 years experience) in the field of corrosion & its control can apply. Award : A Shield, Certificate and Cash award of ̀ 10,000/-

An exhibition is being organized concurrently with the conference to provide an opportunity for the manufacturers and consultants to exhibit their products and services and to interact with the participants. CSIR-CECRI, spread over 300 acres, is located in a serene atmosphere and picturesque
surroundings. With a large variety of plants and trees, both traditional as well as ornamental,
birds and animals, including a large number of peacocks, the campus is aesthetically pleasing
to the eye from every angle. The clean, green and pollution-free environment at CSIR-CECRI is
quite apt for R&D work.

About Karaikudi

Sight seeing places around Karaikudi
Karaikudi is the centre point of
Chettinad, 82 km from Madurai,
located in the Sivaganga district of
Tamil Nadu, between Trichy and
Rameshwaram. Karaikudi is the
biggest city in Chettinad and is
famous for its Ganesha Temple, Saris,
Distinctive Cuisine and Majestic
Mansions. Includes about 72 villages of which many of them were once the homes of wealthy
merchant families known as the Chettiars. It is an area of mostly isolated impressive mansions.
The place derives its name from the famous plant "Karai" which abounds in the area. Karaikudi
is well connected :
From Chennai, one can fly either to Trichy or to Madurai to reach Karaikudi. Both the airports
are equidistant (100 km) from Karaikudi.
Karaikudi Junction is connected via the Chennai- Rameswaram railway line as well as by
Mayiladuthurai-Karaikudi railway line. Karaikudi Junction is about 3 kms from CSIR-CECRI
which can be reached easily by a taxi.
Karaikudi is also well-connected to Chennai & Bangalore through National Highway via Trichy.
Road Transport is also available from Madurai, one of the largest cities in Tamilnadu. One can

CECRI is one of the chain of CSIR
laboratories and largest electrochemical
laboratory in the world, engaged in
Research & Development in all the facets of
electrochemical science and technology.
CSIR-CECRI covers a gamut of fields

Corrosion Science and Engineering, Electrochemical Instrumentation, Electrochemical
Materials Science, Electrochemical Pollution Control, Electrodics and Electrocatalysis,

Finishing and Nanoscale Electrochemistry.
CSIR-CECRI assists the Indian industry by conducting surveys and undertaking consultancy
projects. The institute also conducts short-term refresher courses for the benefit of the
industry and academia. As part of its human resource development programme, CSIR-CECRI
runs Anna University's B.Tech course in Chemical & Electrochemical Engineering. Researchers
from this part of the country make good use of the excellent library as well as the state-of-the-
art analytical and characterization facilities at the institute. CSIR-CECRI also organizes national
and international conferences for dissemination of scientific knowledge. CSIR-CECRI

vRefineries: IndianOil along with its subsidiaries owns and operates 10 refineries across
India. During 2012-13, IndianOil refineries reported a crude throughput of 54.65 MMT.
v? Pipelines: As on 31st March 2013, the total network of product, crude and gas pipelines
under operation was over 11,000 kms.
v? Marketing: IndianOil sells its products under brands such as Indane LPGas, SERVO
lubricants, XtraPremium petrol, XtraMile diesel and PROPEL petrochemicals among
others.
v? Research & Development (R&D): During the same period, 52 patents were filed, out of
which eight were granted license. Further, it also developed 120 product formulations
and obtained 43 approvals/re-certifications from OEMs/ customers/Defense.
v? Petrochemicals: The Corporation is now the second largest player in the domestic
petrochemicals market. During the year, the company sold 1.8 MMT of PROPEL
products.
v? Natural Gas: This division recorded a sales of 1.83 MMT in FY 13. The company's JV with
GAIL (India) Ltd for city gas distribution (CGD) is operational in Agra and Lucknow in UP
and to further expand its CGD network it has formed a consortium with Adani Gas Ltd.
v? Exploration & Production: The Company has 13 domestic and nine overseas blocks
spread across Libya, Iran, Gabon, Nigeria, Yemen and Venezuela.

on corrosion and its control is functioning in the premises of CSIR-CECRI since 1990. NCCI
organizses National Congress on Corrosion Control periodically, covering all aspects of
Corrosion Science and Engineering, at important places, for enlightening and increasing the
awareness on corrosion of metals and appropriate remedial measures for corrosion control.

There has been overwhelming response from various sectors for the earlier Sixteen congresses
held at Karaikudi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Goa, Madurai,
Vadodara, Visakhapatnam, Mangalore and Kolkata. NCCI has also organized an International
Congress on, “Emerging Corrosion Control Strategies for the new Millennium” at New Delhi,
during February 20-22, 2002.
