How we go about calling an associate pastor for our congregation
A message from our pastor Bill Proctor
First Presbyterian
Church
June Devotion
I magine yourself as
a living house.
God comes in to
rebuild that
house. At first, perhaps,
you can understand what
He is doing. He is getting
the drains right and stop-
ping the leaks in the roof
and so on; you knew that
those jobs needed doing
and so you are not sur-
prised. But presently He
starts knocking the house
about in a way that hurts
abominably and does not
seem to make any sense.
What on earth is He up
to? The explanation is
that He is building quite
a different house from
the one you thought of -
throwing out a new wing
here, putting on an extra
floor there, running up
towers, making court-
yards. You thought you
were being made into a
decent little cottage: but
He is building a palace.
He intends to come and
live in it Himself.

P rogress is being made. This past Thursday we received word
from the Committee on Ministry of Tres Rios Presbytery
that our ―Church Information Form‖ (CIF) had been
―joyously approved.‖ What that means is sometime this
week our congregation’s CIF will be officially activated by the denomi-
nation. In other words our Associate Pastor Nominating Committee
(APNC) will soon be receiving what are known as PIF’s – Personal In-
formation Forms – from individuals the computer system at our de-
nomination’s headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, matches up with
our CIF – Church Information Form. (Are you confused yet?)
What is a CIF? It is the equivalent of a job description. The
APNC, in consultation with the Personnel Committee and Session,
drafted a position description for the job of Associate Pastor.
One of the realities about a congregation our size is that we gen-
erally operate and go about the work of ministry and mission as if First
Presbyterian was an independent organization. Many Presbyterians are
surprised to learn we are actually members of what is known as a con-
nectional system of church government. This is why, when it comes
time to add additional pastoral staff, we cannot just go out and hire
someone.
This is where our Presbytery steps in and comes along side of us
to assist in the process. The Committee on Ministry of Tres Rios has ap-
pointed two of their committee members to work with and guide our
search committee. Rev. Jobeth McLeod, Pastor of First Presbyterian
Church in Alpine, and Bart Teeter, Ruling Elder at St. Paul’s Presbyte-
rian Church in San Angelo, are the two persons assigned to assist our
APNC. They serve strictly in an advisory capacity – answering ques-
tions, offering guidance, praying for our search process, and serving as
liaisons between our APNC and the Presbytery.
If you have wondered what the APNC has been up to these last
few months, their first task has been to draft a position description and
then have it approved by our Elders and then by the Committee on
Ministry. This part of the process is now complete. From this point on
our APNC can begin to actually review PIF’s – which are our denomi-
nation's equivalent of a job resume. Hopefully, the computer system in

Combining our classes in this manner gives our teachers a much
needed break.
Continued from Page 1
Louisville, Kentucky, will match us with some viable candidates for the po-
sition. In the meantime the APNC is free to begin contacting seminaries,
other pastors, other congregations, and individuals to ask if they have any
potential candidates to recommend.
How long will it take to find and hire an Associate Pastor? No one
can say. It could be as little as six months or as long as two years. The three
references listed on our CIF are former pastors Ron Sutto and Dale DePue,
as well as former Associate Pastor Esther Choi – all of whom know this
church and community very well.
I urge you, the members of First Presbyterian, to be in prayer for
the members of our APNC, as well as in prayer for the person God will bring
to join with us in ministry and mission. There is no doubt that God has
many more wonderful plans ahead for us as a church.
Lake Lodge Kickoff
June 4.
The youth will be meet-
ing at the Lake Lodge
this summer for Bible,
barbeque, and boating.
We’ll meet at 6 p.m.
every Monday except
June 25 and July 9.
Adult sponsors are
needed to help with
meals and if anyone has
a boat and would be
willing to take the

Brad know.
Tread on Trafficking
Members of the youth
have been “treading”
during May and will
continue to do so dur-

to end child sex slavery
and exploitation. We
need those who feel as
strongly about this
cause as we do to spon-

Our ministry to Lamar continues to bear fruit
T H E L A M B ’ S K I N
W e have just finished our second year of ministering to the
students and teachers of Lamar Elementary in far South-
west San Angelo. And, like the first year, this second year
was very fruitful for the students, teachers and volunteers.
Patt Warren not only tutored students, she also coordinated the efforts that
took place throughout the school year. She had some great helpers too,
Johnna Page, Teacher Appreciation; Janet Phillips, Tutor Coordinator;
Suzanne Dorris, Computer Lab; Londa Snider, Prayer Warrior; and
Susan Woods, Clothing Closet. In addition the following members of our
church family helped with tutoring the children: Cindy Gray,
Claudia Hulse, Joy & Bill Morehead, Kay Kneisler, Suzanne Dorris and
Janet Phillips.
The following individuals contributed with snacks and goodies.
Their contributions became known as, ―Lamar Love‖: Patty Gardner,
Julianna Holland, Pinkie Lieber, Liz Bates, Susie Gibson, Amanda Walling,
Amber Smith, Janet Phillips, Mary Boster, Marcie Puckitt, Kay Bates,
Glenda Kunath, Ginger Heare, Laura Behrens, FPC Board of Deacons,
Karen Hooker, Cindy Gray, Julie Pucci, Marissa Giesecke and Shaye Neal.
Our ministry to Lamar Elementary school will continue with the
coming school year. If you would like to become a tutor, or get involved
with this ministry in another capacity, please contact Patt Warren. Or,
watch for a future Lamb’s Kin article calling for volunteers for the 2012-
2013 school year.
“It is such a blessing to have volunteers from First Pres
at Lamar. My volunteer comes first thing Monday
morning and gives love and support to some struggling
readers that might not have an adult reading with
them at home. The children who are privileged to work
with her feel cherished and special. It is a precious gift. Words cannot express how much I ap-
preciate her willingness to help with these little ones!”

Thankful Hearts
T H E L A M B ’ S K I N
We welcome to our FPC family, the following new members
Yvonne & Albert Allred have
the distinction of living both here
in San Angelo on Lake Nasworthy
as well as in New Mexico. What
brings them to First Presbyterian
are their son Ezra Walling – who
is one of our Deacons – and his
wife Amanda and their two young
children. Al is retired from being a
Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealer in
Deming, NM. Yvonne is retired
from working part-time in the
USPO.
Jeri & Skipper Duncan are re-
turning to First Presbyterian
where they were both very active
members. Skipper is a rancher and
owner of Adobe Hunting Lodge.
Jeri helps with the books and all
of the other paperwork associated
with the ranch and hunting lodge.
Between them they have three
grown sons and six grandchildren.
Colleen & David Hair are long-
time Presbyterians who have both
served as Elders. David once
owned the Maytag store in San
Angelo and now teaches at Glenn
Middle School. Colleen is retired
from Verizon. They have two
daughters, Darcy, who is also a
teacher at Glenn Middle School
and Allie who is a student at
Texas Tech.
Georgia & Ronnie Hart live on
the Puckitt Ranch north of Water
Valley. Ronnie is a retired electri-
cal contractor and Georgia is re-
tired from the Concho Valley Al-
cohol and Drug Abuse Council.
Dear Board of Deacons & Church
Members,
Thank you so much for the
box of treats! I’m sure they’ll
prove quite effective in stimulat-
ing my studying.
Also, thank you for your
thoughts and prayers. They are a
tremendous encouragement to me!
Elise Kappelmann
Dear FPC,
The Chancel flowers were
and are lovely and really bright-
ened my day. Thank you so
much.
Love,
Sandy Whittley
Dear FPC,
Thanks to everyone of my
dear First Presbyterian Church
congregation for the beautiful
spring bouquet of lowers brought
to me for my May 3rd birthday.
It was so nice to be remembered
by all.
Lovingly,
Doris Goodson
Between them they have six
grown children and seven grand-
children.
Ellen & Stephen Helbing come
to us from First Presbyterian
Church in Midland where they
were both active members. Na-
tives of San Angelo, Steve is a re-
tired land man and Ellen is the
former owner of a fashion com-
pany called ―Splend-Denim.‖
Steve also served as a State Repre-
sentative during their years in
New Mexico. They are parents of
four grown sons and grandparents
of six. Steve and Ellen also have
the distinction of having been
married at First Presbyterian by
Dr. Wood and Dr. Level from
First Baptist Church.
Kay Kennemer is known to
many because she is the daughter
of Mary Kennemer and sister of
Donna Crisp. Kay has three
grown children and was in educa-
tion for many years, having
started the library at Glenn Mid-
dle School. She also worked for
the Department of Defense at a
library in Japan, and oversaw the
elementary school libraries in Big
