Thank You!

Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for making my confirmation weekend so memorable. I know there was a lot of time and effort put in by the Elders, Rev. Dobi, the Jones’, Ben, Mary K, and Dan to make it extra special. Thank you to each of you for all you did, as well as the support you’ve given me throughout the years. I’ve been blessed with the love of a great church family. Keaton Walberg

The Property Committee would like to thank all 29 volunteers who worked on Saturday May 11 at the annual outside work day. With so many hands the work time was shorter and the work load lighter. We appreciated the help from our covenant partners who have helped in the past, and the families and young people who assisted. The landscaping of the church looks beautiful. Thank you for your service.

The FPC Mission Committee thanks all the generous Presby-terians who gave money to the Easter Offering this year. The total amount of money given is $2,065.61 to this Samaritan’s Purse effort. The Christians moving into their restored homes in Qaraqosh in northern Iraq are very grateful to be living in their own homes again. The whole world, including the Middle East, and ISIS, has seen that Christians, who are "a light for the Gospel in the heart of the Middle East," cannot be re-moved from their ancient homeland in Qaraqosh in northern Iraq. Thank you for helping to keep that light shining!

Good Shepherd Center Food Pantry Donations The request for June is Canned or Boxed Meals. Thank you for continually supporting this much needed ministry. Donation Baskets are located at the Main Street and Parking Lot entrances.

Vacation Bible School June 10 –14 Soon our church will be transformed into a safari in Africa. Our theme this year is Life is Wild, God is Good!. It is very helpful for planning if students are registered before June 10. Please if you have not registered your child or if you know of a neighbor’s child who would enjoy Vacation Bible school, please encourage them to register as soon as possible. We want to extend an invitation to anyone in the church who would like to come to our closing program on Friday, June 14 at 11:20 in the sanctuary. This program is approximately 20 minutes in

Traveling to North Presbyterian Church In Cleveland Our church will be traveling to Cleveland, Ohio to serve our friends at North Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 28, 2019 This trip is open to anyone who would like to attend. We will worship with our friends at North Church. Before the worship service our youth will be working in the kitchen preparing food for church members who live in nearby shelters. Youth will serve lunch following the morning worship service. While youth are preparing lunch, our adults will serve donuts and coffee cakes to North church members who arrive early. We will be traveling by an Anderson Coach. Our departure time is 7:30 a.m. and return time approximately 6:00 p.m. Please call the church office if you can at-tend. Our church provides dessert for lunch. We will be collecting cookies to take on this trip, along with donuts and coffee cakes. If you are willing to help with our food request, please call the church office. If you would like to go to Cleveland to serve on this mission, please call the church office to save a seat. NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR

First Presbyterian Church is one of several churches/ministries that support a local mission of Downtown

Ministries called Neighbor to Neighbor. Neighbor to Neighbor functions as an 8 week long Christian summer

day camp, for 1st-6th graders in the neighborhood. The camp is located in a field close to the old Agway prop-

erty (now McGranahan's plumbing) in Greenville. Students from various colleges are employed as interns to

run the program. Room and board for the interns is provided along with a stipend. Volunteers provide meals

for the interns, lunches for the Day campers (1st-6th grade), reading with the kids, teaching a new skill, or invit-

ing them to your property for a field trip.

First Presbyterian Church has been asked to support the staff by providing the following:

June 6 lunch for 5 June 10 & 11 dinner for 5 July 29 lunch for 5 July 29 & 30 dinner for 5 Aug. 1 & 2 dinner for 5

The Mission Committee is inviting the congregation to be a part of this mission so please pray about getting

involved and check your calendars. Notify Nancy Hoffacker at 724-456-5361 or [email protected] with

your willingness to provide a meal, portion of a meal, host a field trip, teach a new skill or craft, or read with the

children. Brightly colored Neighbor to Neighbor brochures are located in the racks at the exits of the sanctuary.

Please pick one up to learn more about this program.

VIEW FROM THE PULPIT—- Perhaps in part because I was born into a ‘first shift at the mill’ family, always have I considered myself a ‘morning person.’ That is, I tend to do my best, most productive work earlier in the day. I also do my most disciplined praying before a day’s ‘business’ begins. As surely as I am a ‘morning person,’ there are others known to me as ones who can work-and do work well-long after I have said ‘good night.’ I tell you any of that so I can say that recently there has come for me –without trying–a mostly regular time of ‘evening prayer.’ Evening prayer for me is occasion to reflect on what happened during the course of a day-hours now spent-and opportunity to compare what happened with what I thought would happen (or planned would happen). Always, there seems to be a list of things that were important enough for me to place on an agenda for the day that-for whatever reasons-were not accomplished. So regular is this ‘leftover’ list that I have needed a plan for what to do in order to keep the world spinning. What I have discovered is the point of this very brief newsletter piece. Real rest comes as gift from God when I thank God I do not need to keep the world spinning-because He does. The realization of this great truth places the period of God’s mercy and care for us at the end of every day. It does not matter if I am feeling ‘spiritual’ or not. It does not seem much to matter if I even know what to say. Further, it does not seem to matter if I say this evening the same thing I said last evening. What I have created is one more habit. The habit is that with confidence I leave with the God who is able-where I have been, where I am, and where yet I am to be. With much love, I commend the discipline to you. DAD
