Does anyone else feel like the summer has flown by at light
speed? It does not seem possible that the start of another
school year is upon us, yet, here we are!
At 1st UMC Roswell, the start of a new school year also
means the beginning of our fall schedule of classes and activ-
ities. I’d like to highlight a few of the exciting changes that
you will enjoy this fall.
Steve Thorp, our new Director of Chancel Choir and Kaler Handbells, officially
comes on staff August 1st. He has already attended a staff meeting and we are very
excited about the gifts and graces he brings to 1st! Adult choirs will begin rehearsals
on August 15th, and we are eagerly inviting all youth and adults who have even had
the tiniest thought of being part of choir or handbells, to come give these music minis-
tries a try! (Hint…there will be a “special treat” following the first choir rehearsal!)
I (Pastor Tina) am excited to take on a couple of new opportunities this fall. Our
youngest musicians, aged 3 – Kindergarten, are invited to join me on Wednesday af-
ternoons for Preschool Praise. (4:30 – 5:00 starting August 15th.) We will meet in my
office to sing, dance, and make a joyful noise as we learn about God. Preschool
Praise will sing in Sunday worship services a few times each semester.
Wednesday evenings, beginning August 15th, I will teach a 6pm class about the Holy
Land. We will study the Bible Stories related to the locations the Holy Land Tour
group will visit during our October trip to Jordan and Israel. You do not have to be
committed to the travel group to attend; EVERYONE is welcome to the Holy Land
Bible Study.
Sunday September 12, is the first gathering of our Youth Worship Team. We will
meet each week from 4:00 – 5:30pm to prepare worship music for our Youth Group
meetings. All youth who sing or play an instrument are encouraged to be part of the
Youth Worship Team. Seriously, this group should be a blast!
Of course, there are many MANY other opportunities for you to grow in your faith as
we enter into the cooler months of the year. Be sure to watch the Newsletter, Bulle-
tins, and Facebook page for details. God is eager to spend time with your this fall!

FUMC Acknowledges the following memorials:
This fine looking group of men, three of which are from
FUMC-Roswell, helped build a ramp for a family in Bernalil-
lo a few weeks ago. Thank you Mike Puckett, Gary
Spreacker and Bill Cooper for going out of your way to Ber-
nalillo to help!
Our Mission Team is trying to get a group together to
build Ramps for the elderly and disabled that are in need of
this type of service. They have already built two ramps for
people in Roswell. If you are interested in helping, contact
Kelly Cockrell, chair of Missions, or Mike Puckett. You can
also call the church office at 575-622-1881 and leave your
name and say “I want to help!”
Join us on Sunday, Au-
gust 12 during the Worship
Service for our Fall Kick
Off. We would like to send
our students and teachers
out for the new school year
with a special blessing. Stu-
dents are welcome to bring
their backpacks and school
supplies for a blessing as well. Bring friends, neighbors,
or relatives!
