for Indigenous StudentsFirstNationsStatus,Non-Status,Métis,andInuitstudentsatFanshaweCollegewillfindculturally

supportiveservicesandprogramsattheFirstNationsCentre.

Aswellasprovidingcounselling, referralsandstudentactivities,theFirstNations

CentreisalsothemeetingplaceforFirstNationsPost-SecondaryEducationCounsellorsandtheirstudents.

TheCentreincludesacomputerlabandlaptoparea,placestostudy,astudentlounge,meetingrooms,

andkitchenfacilities.

First NationsStudent Association TheFirstNationsStudentAssociationprovidesstudentswithopportunitiestoactivelyengageincultural,socialandrecreationalactivitieswithotherIndigenousstudents.StudentsareempoweredandhaveavoiceindecisionsrelatedtotheFirstNationsCentreandtheAboriginalEducationCouncil.

Intramural Sports & RecreationTheFirstNationsStudentAssociationparticipatesinavarietyofintramuralsportswithintheFanshaweCollegecommunity.Recreationalactivitiesincludebowling,minigolf,baseballandsocialoutings.Indigenousstudentsalsohave access to the wide rangeofsportsfacilitiesat Fanshawe College.

Visiting Elder AnElderisavailableduringtheacademicyeartoofferspiritualandculturalsupport

toIndigenousstudents.ThepresenceofanElderalso

enhancesculturalsensitivitywithintheCollegecommunity.

Peer Helper Program ThePeerHelperProgramhelpsnew studentstobuildconfidenceandadjusttocollegelife.Seniorstudentsarematchedwithnewstudentstoprovidementorshipandencourageinvolvementin Centre activities.
