The first meeting of the Regional Task Force and Workshop to develop a Regional Strategy and Action Plan for Ballast Water
Management (BWM) in South Asia was held in February 2014 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to initiate the Ballast Water Management Programme with the assistance of International maritime Organisation (IMO) to ensure the harmonized and coherent compliance with and enforcement of the BWM Convention and of its associated guidelines, recommendations and practices in the South Asian region to minimize the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens in ships’ ballast water and sediments, One of the main objectives of this meeting was the establishment of a Regional Task Force to facilitate the finalization of the Regional Strategic Action Plan for the implementation of the BWM Convention in South Asia.
Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India has formed a National Task Force (NTF). The NTF met on 14th September, 2015 at Ministry of Shipping, Mumbai to develop India’s position on the “Regional Strategy and Action Plan for BWM” in the SACEP region.

The idea of the forthcoming workshop is to provide a meeting ground and bringin awareness and update knowledge among researchers, scholars, entrepreneurs, students, etc. associated with BWM in India. It would be an unprecedented event to have an interaction with the administrators, scientists, educationalists and experts across India to know the latest developments in this field.

ThE ChENNaI CITy

The workshop will be conducted in the state-of-the-art auditorium, Sagar Sanagamam, at the NIOT campus, Chennai. The campus is located 11 km from Chennai Airport and 20 km from Chennai Central Railway Station.
