Course Objectives:
To build up the ability of students in how to measure the various physical
properties that involved on the thermodynamics as well as the fluid
mechanics courses.
To illustrate experimentally the concepts of various phenomena that
involved on both courses.
Ability for the student to communicate effectively with various types of
measuring devices with disciplinary via team work or alone.
Broadening as well as enhancing the knowledge level in the student mind
for the theoretical different concepts those teach in the classroom.Eng. Alfulayyih | ME Dept. | QU | Fall2015

Course learning outcomes: Recognize the pumps characterization. Understand the thermal conductivity of materials and
experimentally determine it. Understand the thermal performance of fins and
experimentally determine this performance. Understand the forced and free convection coefficient and
experimentally determine it. Understand the error in temperature measurements due to
radiation and experimentally determine this error. Understand the heat-exchanger effectiveness and
experimentally determine it.

Relationship to the Program Outcomes: Outcome (b): an ability to design and conduct experiments, as
well as to analyze and interpret data.
Outcome (c): an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints
Outcome (d): an ability to function on teams Outcome (g): an ability to communicate effectively Outcome (k): an ability to use the techniques, skills, and
modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice Outcome (i): the ability to work professionally in both thermal
and mechanical systems areas including the design and realization of such systems
