On this day we welcome Jesus into the city of Jerusalem, the end of one journey and the start of another. Our Holy week continues on Maundy Thursday, April 18th with a service at 6pm in the Sanctuary. This service commemorates the last supper and then the betrayal and arrest of Christ. We will celebrate communion and then prepare ourselves for Good Friday. Finally, Holy week ends on Easter Sunday with worship at 11am in the sanctuary. Our service will feature a pair of trumpeters, communion, as well as words of hope and challenge. Bring you family and friends to this wonderful and unique service. Once again the garden of the church will transform into a wonderland of Eggs with the annual Easter Egg hunt! The hut will begin at 10am on Easter morning. There will be candy, prizes, and a few special eggs. All the kids are invited to come and be a part of this fun event. Grown ups can come early and watch! It will be followed by a time of fellowship and fun in the fellowship hall. Coffee and refreshments will be available. Plan to come and visit with one another as we celebrate the risen Lord.

Our lenten Sunday School Series continues March 31 and April 7. We will spend time on March 31st exploring the basics of Disciples theology. We will ask ourselves “what do we believe and why?”
We will follow up with our last class on April 7th as we learn about the history of our own congregation. We will talk about how it got started, the major events in its life, and dream about what God has in store for us as we move into the future.

You are cordially invited to join the church in celebrating the Ordination into ministry of Diane W. Bales. The service will be Sunday April 28th, at 3pm. An ordination is part wedding, part graduation ceremony, and part Sunday morning church service. They are a service of sacrament in which someone takes on the challenges of being an ordained minister of the Gospel. Please mark your calendars for this special service.

DWF/ DMF Meeting
The Disciples Women’s Fellowship and Disciples Men’s Fellowship meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6pm at the IHOP on Epps Bridge Parkway. This gathering is open to everyone and all are invited to come and share in dinner and fellowship!
During months with 5 Sundays, we celebrate Food Bank day on the 5th Sundays. March is one of those months. Since both the Food Bank of North East Georgia and the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank are partner organizations, we especially want to lift them up this month.
As always, they accept any food items. Foods with protein are especially welcomed. They also use paper grocery sacks to distribute the food to their clients. You can bring your donations and leave them in the bin in the fellowship hall. On March 31st we will be dedicating the food offerings as part of the offertory time in Worship.
Please join us at the Food Bank of NE GA for our first volunteer session next Wednesday, April 3, 10-11am! We will be leaving the FCC parking lot at 9:40am for those who would like a ride, or participants can meet at the Food Bank at 10am (861 Newton Bridge Rd). We will be sorting bread for their Food to Kids program and sorting through food donations for damage and expired foods. Please let Stacy know if you would like to join us ([email protected]).

FCC Generosity
In March the members of FCC gave generously above and beyond our tithes and offerings. Memorial gifts were made in honor of Annie Jean Smith and Charlie Smith.
As part of our fundraising for JJ Harris Elementary School we gave nearly $1000 to send 5th graders on their field trip.
In support of the Food Bank, not including the canned goods collected on March 31, we gave $500 to help feed families in Athens and the surrounding counties.

Building Update: Going Green
Work began on the roofing project on March 26th. The project will replace the existing red roof which was installed between 1926-29. The new green roof is made from a synthetic material called Thermoplastic Polyefin (TPO) which is installed over the existing roof. When heat-welded together it will create one seamless waterproof membrane. For visual appeal, TPO pieces will be added to make the roof appear as though it is raised seam. However, since the material does not come in red, a decision was made to go with a Patina Green color similar to that at City Hall. Work is expected to take 4-6 weeks. Sunday morning services is not expected to be impacted, but you will see the work in progress!
You can follow the church facebook page for more information, pictures, and updates. This project, and color change, will mark a new chapter in the life and history of our iconic building.
In addition to the roof, carpet was replaced in the Joy and BYKOTA class rooms and the sub-basement of the Grubb house was finished with a new floor. That space will host the Disciples on Campus college ministry.
