The Blue Ridge Baptist Association food pantry has need of a few
things. There is no canned fruit at this time. We
could also use packaged flavored noodles
(example: Knorrs flavored noodles). Canned
meats and peanut butter are always needed.
Also, you can get a gift card for $5 or $10 from
a grocery store or Dollar General/Family Dollar
and send it to the BRBA or drop it off and NC Faith Health can use
that to purchase items like milk for their clients that need
food. Thank you for all you do to help with this!
Philippians 2:1-2 NRSV
Imitating Christ’s Humility
If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation
from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympa-
thy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the
same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Wow! There are sooo many applications for this scripture in
our personal, social, and professional lives. As we all know,
Jesus lived a very humble life as he walked this earth, setting the
standard we all should live.
Paul shares here the rewards that can be attained through
imitating Christ's humility: Encouragement, Consolation, Shar-
ing, Compassion, Sympathy, and Joy. All these rewards are of
great benefit to the human heart and soul. But then he talks
about what it takes to reap these rewards.
Be of the same mind - Paul's not talking about learning to
think alike for this could and would cause great conflict among
individuals. Paul here, is referring to the mind of Christ. To
think like Jesus. To see our world as Jesus sees it. To respond
in our world as Jesus responded.
Having the same love - People tend to pick and chose those
they love, beginning with family, friends, social circles, and eco-
nomics. However, the love of Jesus was poured out to everyone
He encountered regardless of who they were. Be they a crooked
tax collector, prostitute, thief, politician, or king. In this verse
we are asked to love with Jesus’ kind of love, not ours.
Being in full accord and of one mind - Okay! This is not a
reference to packing a bunch of people into a tiny car, but a chal-
lenge to being in agreement with one another. Granted it would
be easier to pack a tiny car with a lot of people than to get a lot
of people to agree on one decision. However, Paul reiterates the
one mind concept here and reminds us that our unity is found in
sharing in the mind of Christ. That is making our decisions
based on Jesus teachings and not of our individual desires.
And so it is in music and choir. We are a "team" sharing the
Gospel of Christ Jesus in music and song. We work hard to-
gether to prepare for each Sunday Service as well as special oc-
casions. We select songs that bring Glory and Honor to Jesus
Christ as well as peace and serenity to the hearts of the lis-
tener. We are not only challenged in our musical abilities but
also in humility, courage, ability to be in one accord.
I know there are many able people in our church that would
benefit from being part of such an amazing team. Take a step of
faith and become a member of the First Baptist Church Choir.
Sincerely,
Stephen Willie
Interim Music Director
