Overview

Geomechanics plays a significant role in decisions regarding all phases of exploration and production in the life cycle of an asset. Specifically, geomechanics can have an influence on pro-ject appraisal, field development and primary, secondary and tertiary production activities. A more recent focus on uncon-ventional businesses has highlighted the value geomechanics can bring to the day-to-day running of an oil and gas asset team, especially in stimulation operations. Reducing and managing risk for drilling and completions cam-paigns, enhancing seismic and geological interpretations and optimising reservoir simulations are some of the key geome-chanical initiatives that play an important part in asset man-agement. In fact, when appropriately deployed, geomechanics can significantly assist asset managers and technologists, re-duce uncertainties and improve production in both the con-ventional and unconventional businesses.

Aims & Objectives

This workshop aims to inform asset managers, technology leaders, G&G experts and engineers on how to appropriately integrate geomechanics into their various field development project activities starting from exploration via drilling to the full development phase; in other words, across the entire life cycle of their assets. Key topics to be discussed during the workshop will address the issues of data availability and quality at the different stages of the field’s life, acquiring measurements at various scales to help reduce uncertainty and translating advanced nu-merical computations into operational recommendations and business benefits, especially when risk is at stake. Sessions will focus on the application of geomechanics to res-ervoir characterisation, asset management, EOR, drilling and completion, tight reservoirs and unconventionals; as we ap-proach the subject of knowledge retention and transfer.

Topics & Submission Guidelines

The technical committee invites submissions of 2–4 pages that should include at least one figure via the EAGE website on the following topics:

1. Application of Geomechanics in Reservoir Characterisation2. The use of Geomechanics in Asset Management3. Enhanced Oil Recovery using Geomechanics4. Geomechanics for Drilling and Completion5. Role of Geomechanics in Tight Reservoirs and

Unconventionals6. Knowledge Retention & Transfer

The submission deadline is 30 April 2016. For further details on the topics please visit the workshop website.
