Seeking Wildfire Mitigation Advisor for Southwest US
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has a contract opening for the Southwest US
(Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas and Utah) to support its Firewise Communities program. If you
are a skilled communicator, a willing traveler, and are passionate about Firewise and wildfire safety, we want you on our team.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The NFPA Firewise Advisor serves as a resource to state forestry organizations, fire departments, and communities in wildfire -prone
areas by providing Firewise education and materials; supporting the start-up of new Firewise Communities/USA recognition sites;
and supporting the ongoing participation of existing sites. The NFPA Firewise Advisor supports the NFPA Firewise Communities
Program by representing the national program and collecting important findings and information for program leaders.
NFPA Firewise will provide the following to successful candidates:
Monthly retainer for services of $2,100 permonth
Travel funds (air, rental vehicle, mileage, meals,lodging) for approved trips within budget
Firewise educational materials including print,audiovisual and web-based modules
Identifying gear/clothing for presentations andmeetings
Business cards
The successful candidate must:
Reside in one of the mainland states within theassigned region (CO, KS, NM, TX or UT)
Be available for evening and weekend meetings. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the
NFPA Firewise Communities program and its
principles.
Demonstrate skills in public speaking andpresentation.
Demonstrate experience and credibility in thefield of wildfire safety education.
Be willing and available to travel to meetingsand trainings between 8-12 times per year.
Maintain a home office and address, andprovide for a telephone line, internet access and
computer.
Understand and refrain from activities that mayconstitute a conflict of interest with NFPA or its
Firewise Communities program
Understand and abide by federal rules andregulations governing the conduct of sub-
contractors/grantees
