Fire destroys properties and investments worth hundreds of million ringgits every year - a loss to the industry and nation as it will affect productivity. There will also be unnecessary lives lost – a tragedy to affected families - which is immeasurable if compared with property loss. Incorporating appropriate fire safety design into built-environment is paramount important in the modern construction industry to preserve environment and reduce carbon foot print. The recent highrise fire incidents around the globe with high casualty rates have raised alarm among Government agencies, professionals as well as fire sectors of what actually went wrong. Though the investigation and findings of the actual causes may not be known, certain aspects and issues can be reviewed so that better preventive measures can be introduced to prevent future fire incidents and disasters. These include current building fire safety design, selection of fire protection systems/materials, fire protection system testing requirements, mass evacuation, competency of fire professionals, approval process, etc. Therefore, it is timely that this PAM-IFEM Seminar on “Incorporating MS 1183 into Fire Safety Design for Highrise Buildings” is held to review and relook at the current fire safety concepts and misconceptions with appropriate guidance from the latest Malaysian Standard MS1183. MS1183 is by far the most comprehensive Code of Practice for fire safety design encompassing architectural design, active and passive fire safety design as well as for buildings’ maintenance and management. The Standard serves as a useful guidance for Architects, Fire Engineers, M&E Engineers, Building Owners, Developers, Contractors, Fire protection system suppliers and manufacturers, maintenance managers, engineers and contractors. So come and learn from experts from the industry and authority the organiser has assembled; the speakers will share with participants their knowledge, experience and latest findings in fire safety in highrise buildings. SYNOPSIS

Fire safety is a crucial part of Building Industry.
