FireSense is a 100% Australian owned specialist supplier of electronic fire systems and fire cable to installers and wholesalers. Our TPS & Fire Rated Cables have been manufactured and designed by us, with the fire and electrical contractor in mind.

The main difference between FireSense and other manufacturers is simply that we are a fire alarm company. Our background is fire.

With over 30 years’ experience in the fire industry, FireSense understand what is required. We understand Australian standards and we take the quality of all our products, as well as the overall customer experience very seriously.

Before the introduction and development of our cable range in 2010, we asked our fire contractors what they wanted out of a cable when installing on site. They wanted a cable that was simple to use, easy to strip, flexible, compliant, high quality and readily available.

We listened and delivered. Nearly 10 years later, we are known to have Australia’s most trusted fire rated cable.

Our cables have been independently tested and approved by Warrington Fire to the requirements of AS/NZS 3013 for both fire and mechanical cable properties. All FireSense cables are certified 2 hour fire rated.

As there is no sheath on this cable, there is no mechanical protection.

Australian Standards require that fire rated cables are mechanically fixed to trays with the use of steel ties.

FireSense stainless steel cable ties are suitable for use with fire rated cables in accordance with AS 3013, AS 1670, AS 2118 & AS 1668. Independent approval can also be provided to Section C of AS/NZS 3013 as well as ActivFire Certification for the SST-200/SST-360.

Does the cable have to be red?The Fire Alarm standards, i.e. AS 1670.2018 stipulate a red outer sheath for fire applications. If a fire rating requirement is stipulated, the cable used will need the red outer sheath to differentiate between other system types.

When do I need white stripe?As per AS 1670.1:2018, when 100V speaker feeds are used for low voltage telecommunication transmission paths, the outer sheath of the cable needs to be red in colour with a white stripe marked with ‘LV’ Fire. The markings cannot exceed intervals of 2 metres.

What’s the difference between flat and twisted TPS and when do I use it?Twisted TPS is generally used between addressable fire panels, detectors and devices. The twists reduce the effect of any interferences on an electronic signal. Flat TPS is usually used between conventional Fire Alarms to detectors, speakers, horns, strobes, field modules etc. Use the white stripe flat for speaker feeds. g Note: some systems require screened cable, refer to the panel manufacturer.

Which part of the cable is the fire rated part?While some think the outer red sheath is the fire rating, it is actually the fibreglass white micatape. The micatape is wrapped around each single copper core of the cable and protects the cores from shorting which allows the cable to continue to function for 2 hours in a fire situation. The outer sheath is for mechanical protection only.

Is your FR cable UV stabilised?Yes, the outer sheath of the fire rated cable is constructed with a Halogen free cross linked polymer that is UV stabilised. The construction of the cable is in accordance with all relevant standards. Fading can occur when exposed to direct sunlight, however this doesn’t affect the mechanical properties of the cable.

What does WS52W mean?*You might see this written in certain specifications. AS/NZS 3013 is a classification system which defines the performance of a wiring system (WS).Note: A classification of WS52W means the wiring system needs to comply to a minimum rating of WS52W which includes the tray, fixing points, ties, etc. *See diagram on last page.

2HR Fire RatingFire rating is the operating performance of a cable. When exposed to a fire, the cable needs to continue to function for 2 hours.

Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH)Halogen free. Halogen free cables are used where the risk of exposure to harsh chemicals may affect the ability for the public to exit an area, i.e. underground platforms. All FireSense Fire Rated cables use LSZH materials and are completely PVC free.

UV StablisedA stabiliser is added to the resin of a substance, i.e. cable sheath which protects it from long-term degradation from UV light, e.g. sunlight.
