RISKSCatering kitchens tend to uselarge quantities of hot fat andoil for the preparation of food.These fats and oils pose a par-ticularly high fire risk.

Most fires in kitchens start indeep fryers, frying pans andgrilling plates with defectiveoverheating protection.

Fat self-ignites at a tempera-ture of 350 °C, which is easilyreached, and fat fires tend tospread very quickly. On manyoccasions, flames up to twometres high occurred only 30 seconds after the fire hadstarted.

Attempts to extinguish suchfires with water lead to deva-stating fat explosions. UsingCO2 extinguishers and fire blankets is often unsuccessful,and these devices are nowprohibited by the trade asso-ciations in Germany and prob-ably in all other countries forthe extinguishing of fat fires.Kitchen fires can only befought effectively with a spe-cially developed extinguishant.

Every fire puts lives at risk andthreatens the livelihood ofpeople. Without effective fireextinguishing systems, you alsorisk huge damage to property.In many cases, extensive refur-bishment is necessary, and yourrestaurant or canteen mustclose for a considerable periodof time. In the worst case, youmight even be forced out ofbusiness.

IDENTIFYING

The KS 2000 compact extin-guishing system has been spe-cifically designed for use incatering kitchens. The firedetection elements respondthe moment the first small

flame occurs, and the fire ispromptly extinguished beforeserious damage can occur.

The Febramax-S extinguishantused in the system works in

two ways: It is sprayed throughfine nozzles onto the equip-ment, forming a blocking layerover the fat or oil so that thefire is starved of oxygen.

SOLUTIONEXTINGUISHING FIRES SAFELY AND TWICE AS EFFECTIVELY

Simultaneously, the fat is cooled down by the water contained in the agent, so preventing self-ignition. The KS 2000 is thus twice aseffective and reliable as con-ventional extinguishers. Theintegrated NC switch ensures

that all kitchen appliances are switched off instantly, pre-venting renewed self-ignition.

The specially developedFebramax-S agent is hygien-ically harmless and its residuecan easily be cleaned off, so

that your kitchen is up andrunning again after only ashort time. With a pH of 9.4,Febramax-S combines out-standing efficiency with leastharm to health and the en-vironment.

Fire detection

The fire detectors aremounted in front of the

Easy and quick installation,cleaning and maintenanceThe KS 2000 can be customisedto suit any kitchen. As most of its components are preas-sembled, it can be installedbetween the working hours ofyour kitchen so that you donot have to close your busi-ness even for a day. Dependingon your needs, the system isequipped with extinguishingnozzles that are mounted between 0.3 and 1.5 metersabove the easily ignitable fat.The KS 2000 can thus be con-figured so that it does not inany way obstruct staff workingin the kitchen.

If additional protection is re-quired, you might opt for ex-tra extinguishant by installingone or more secondary cylin-ders that are actuated sepa-rately.

The KS 2000 system must onlybe serviced once a year, fur-ther reducing the operatingcosts. After a fire, the KS 2000is quickly restored to readymode, protecting your pro-perty.

Pneumatic actuation is thepreferred solution for mostkitchens, as costs for installa-tion and operation are par-ticularly low. Pneumatic

actuation also allows for theconnection of any number ofKS 2000 systems in series. Suchsolutions are recommendedfor kitchens where more fatand oil is heated than can besafely extinguished by smallextinguishing systems. The KS 2000 allows for a broadrange of pipeline layouts forconcealed installation in everykitchen, irrespective of thesize of the system.

Tried, tested and approvedFebramax-S extinguishant hasbeen tested and approved bythe official test institute forclass A fires and fat fires. TheKS 2000 has also been testedby the German trade associa-tions of the food industry andis recommended for the use incatering kitchens and similarpremises.
