Dear Members
The Snow Polo World Championship in Tianjin
was a great success. The games were intensively
competitive with most games being won either by
one goal or in a “shoot-out.” England was victori-
ous over Hong Kong in a hard fought final. Con-
gratulations to England on winning the Champi-
onship and congratulations to all of the teams for
a wonderful and highly competitive tournament.
Your FIP Executive Committee had a very pro-
ductive meeting during the tournament in China.
Plans are moving forward for the World Champi-
onship Tournament in 2015. I hope to provide
you with details in our next newsletter.
We are pleased to announce that the European
Championship will be played at the Chantilly Polo
Club in France, September 4-14, 2014. Infor-
mation will be will be forthcoming from Mr. Piero
Dillier Zone C Director.
The arrangements for the World Equestrian
Games (WEG) September 6, 2014 in Deauville,
France continue to progress very satisfactorily.
We have noted an increase n the number of tour-
naments where teams used National Names with-
out the approval of their National Associations.
Most associations appear to have rules regarding
the control of the use of their “country name” in
order to protect their brand and reputation. We
encourage all of our members to enforce these
rules.
I recently had the pleasure of attending the Siri-
mur 14 Goal Tournament in Jaipur India. It was
an exciting and well played 14 goal tournament.
The Commandant of the 61st Cavalry Col Navjit
Sandhu and Maharaj Narendra Singh have gra-
ciously offered to pursue the possibility of an
Ambassador’s Cup in 2015.
We are pleased to announce that ARISF/IOC
Grants have been awarded to Columbia, Italy,
and Germany during the first quarter of 2014.
We encourage all of our members to develop quali-
fying programs for our grants.

England wins the FIP Fortune Heights Snow Polo World
Cup for 2014
Inside Story Headline
“Today we went out there and just gave it everything.”
England’s Jack Richardson was the proud recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award, a testa-ment to the skill and courage the young polo star had exhibited throughout the tournament. As is the polo tradition, the ponies had their deserved moment in the limelight, with the Best Pony Award given to Negro, ridden by Hong Kong China.
With the Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cup 2014 conclud-ed, polo fans in China and around the world can now look ahead to an exciting programme of events coming later in the year at the Tianjin Goldin Metro-politan Polo Club, including the Metropolitan Polo Classic 2014,
19 January 2014, Tianjin –
England, the nation that gave polo its famous moniker ‘the game of kings’, reclaimed its crown today with a hard-fought win over Hong Kong China in the final of the Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cup 2014.
After a thrilling four chukkas, England trotted off the field 6 – 5 the victors, and in so doing, denied their opponents Hong Kong China a third successive championship victory. Jubilant, the English trio of Max Routledge, Jack Richardson and Max Charlton had finally settled the score against their fierce rivals Hong Kong China, a team that had beaten them on almost every occasion at the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club.
In the previous two Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cups, England had drawn Hong Kong China at the semi-final stages, and on both occasions were dumped out of the competition, with Hong Kong China going on to win the title. In last year’s Fortune Heights Super Nations Cup final, they met again, and once again, Hong Kong China triumphed, beating the English 11 – 7.
Summing up the reasons for this year’s success, England coach Alan Kent cited discipline and teamwork. “They are a young team but they bonded very well together,” said Kent, delighted with the way his side had per-formed. “We have got better with each game,” explained England captain Max Charlton.
