FINISTÈRE
3 PERFECT DAYS DAY 1 // THE SOUTH COAST
The former mill town of Pont-Aven ( p111 ) was a favourite country getaway for lots of 19th-century artists including Paul Gauguin, and its water mills and woodlands still have bags of old-world charm. Indulge in a stellar lunch at Le Moulin de Rosmadec ( p113 ) before heading on to Concarneau ( p108 ), famous for its fortifi ed ville close and authentic fi shing-town feel.
DAY 2 // CAPITAL IDEAS Next up is Finistère’s historic capital, Quimper ( p102 ). Factor in visits to the twin-spired cathedral ( p103 ) and the historic HB Henriot faïencerie factory ( p105 ), before brushing up on Celtic culture at the Musée Départemental Breton ( p104 ). A gastro-nomic cruise down the Odet River ( p104 ) is a fi ne way to end the day, followed by a stay at the exclusive Villa Tri-Men ( p294 ).
DAY 3 // THE EDGE OF FINISTÈREQuit the city and head southwest to the pretty fi shing ports and portside restaurants of the Pays Bigouden ( p106 ). Picnic on the beaches around Pointe de la Torche ( p108 ), spot seabirds at the Réserve du Cap Sizun ( p100 ) or drink in the scenery from Pointe du Raz ( p101 ). Douarnenez ( p99 ) has some great places to stay – two of our favourites are the L’Auberge de Kervéoc’h ( p293 ) and Ty Mad ( p294 ).

GETTING AROUND
Two main roads cut across Finistère: the north–south N165 between Quimper and Brest, and the
west–east D12 from Brest towards Guingamp and the Côtes d'Armor, but the smaller regional
roads, especially around the coasts and abers, can be slow-going. The main TGV route from Paris
Montparnasse runs to Morlaix and Brest, with good regional train connections and bus links around
the rest of the département. Roscoff's a busy ferry port, with regular boats to Plymouth and Rosslare.
