Dining Etiquette
Etiquette relates to a code of behavior among people within an organization or group or society.
Common slip- ups !!
• Poor table manners• Inappropriate dressing and grooming• Misuse of telephone• Inappropriate praise for others• To greet others properly• Disregard of other’s space • Inappropriate language
PRE DINING ETIQUETTE• As a host – a day or two prior confirm with your guests and
reconfirm with restaurant.
• Be sure to arrive on time.
• Call ahead if you know you will be late.
• Wait 15 minutes before checking on guests.
• Take care of all the details ahead of time.
Getting seated
• When escorted to a table by maître d'hôtel , allow the guest(s) to walk behind the person.
• When finding a table on our own, host takes a lead.
• Greet your guests on arrival and make proper introductions.
Napkins
• When you are excusing yourself from the table, place the napkin on the chair.
• Keep the napkin on your lap until everyone has finished dining.
• When the meal is finished , place the napkin to the right/left side of the plate.
• Do not use the napkin to wipe your face, neck or chin etc.

Table d’hote A la carte Buffet
TABLE HOSTThis term indicates a set meal, usually 3 or 4 courses with at least one choice in each course – vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
FROM THE CARDMost familiar type of menu.List of items each one separately priced. There is waiting period Your order arrives at the table.
It is a display of selection of items. There is a charge for the meal and you help yourself to whatever you wish with as many helpings as you like.
QUICK TIPSDO’S
• Sit straight with feet on the floor, legs together.
• Speak softly nearest to you.
• Thank the waiter once or twice.
• Enquire from the host/hostess about the dress code .
• Men should assist ladies to be seated by pulling out the chair.
DONT’S
• Do not begin eating until everyone at your table has been served their food.
• Do not make noise while eating.
• Do not say, “I don’t like that” or “I hate that.” If you do not like something say, “No thank you.”
• Do not tilt or rock your chair back. Sit up and maintain good posture.
Remember…. Attention should be on people and not on food……
