FINDING TRENDS/INTERPRETING GRAPHS
FINDING TRENDS/INTERPRETING GRAPHS
• What is a trend? Take a few moments and write down your ideas. If we are talking about math, what do you think a trend means in math?
FINDING TRENDS/INTERPRETING GRAPHS
• Put simply, a trend is a pattern in the data.
FINDING TRENDS/INTERPRETING GRAPHS
• Let’s watch the Learn 360 video “Cyberchase: Return to Sensible Flats” to gain a better understanding of how we can spot trends in graphs and how we can use them to make predictions.
• While watching the video answer the questions on the next slide.

Cyberchase: Return to Sensible FlatsVideo Questions
• After constructing the first line graph what trend did they discover? What information were they able to gain?
• What information was gained from the second line graph? How did the pattern help them to gain this information?
• Using the third graph how were they able to predict where the water level would be in the near future?
Responses to Video Questions
• The water level went down steadily after a period of time.
• If it doesn’t rain soon the lake will dry up in about 4 more days. “No rain, no water in the lake”.
• They knew how much the water level had risen in 5 minutes. They then calculated where the water level would be if it continued to rise to the same level every 5 minutes.
Make a Prediction! What prediction(s) could you make using this graph?
