"The Christian gospel is a two-way road. On the one hand, it seeks to change the souls of men, and thereby unite them with God; on the
other hand, it seeks to change the environmental conditions of men so the soul will have a chance after it is changed."

September FAMILY movie night
Come out Friday, September 28th at 7:30 P.M. to watch the family movie The Prince of Egypt. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks (popcorn will be provided), and join us for this movie. This movie is rated G and is good for the whole family! This is a moving movie that parents and kids alike will enjoy.
“In this animated retelling of the Book of Exodus, Egyptian Prince Moses (Val Kilmer), upon discovering his roots as a Jewish slave, embarks on a quest to free his people from bondage. When his plea is denied by his brother Rameses (Ralph Fiennes), the new pharaoh, a series of horrific plagues strike Egypt. Moses finally leads the Israelites to freedom by parting the Red Sea and drowning the Egyptian army. God then gives Moses the Ten Commandments, a list of rules for his people to live by.” Provided movie description.
The more that you read The more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. - Dr. Seuss This is truly one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Seuss. But have you ever stopped to wonder how it can apply to it to the Bible? The more you read the Bible, The more you’ll know about God. The more you learn about God, The more you can share with others in the places you will go.

We are nearing the end of our 30 weeks through the book called BELIEVE. This 30-week series has taken us through two sections so far asking the questions; how do I think as a Christian and how do we act as Christians? Our final ten weeks is going to reveal what it means to simply be a Christian. And this section is going to focus on what our faith produces, the Fruit of the Spirit.

One of the many missions we support is Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. Several
thousands of people across Northwest Haiti are helped through primary schools, feeding projects, orphanages, medical clinics, church planting, a Bible college, and agricultural development. They are the largest employer in the northwest zone and one of the largest ministries in Haiti. Since the mid-1970s, NWHCM has been built around partnerships with churches and individuals who are interested in ministry in Haiti. The mission of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission is to “passionately pursue Christ, as His
followers, by aiding the people of Haiti in their passionate pursuit of Christ and facilitating others to engage with NWHCM in our efforts.” They are driven by their faith in Jesus Christ to serve the poor and oppressed in the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nation because they are loved, and God loves them too.
Lives are being changed, the “Good News” is being shared, the sick are being treated, the hungry are being fed, the children are being loved, the young are being educated and the old are being cared for. Relief and development projects are underway, as well as new orphanages and medical facilities. Thank you for your continued faithfulness in partnering with us on these ministries and many others. To learn more about NWHCM and its ministries and how to give online, please go to www.nwhcm.org.

This is article #3 in our series about The Bible.
Since 1611 the King James Version of the Bible (KJV) has been the standard English translation of God’s Word used by many Protestants the world over. It could be argued that the KJV is the most printed book in the history of the world. In this installment we will look at the origins of this version, and why today I feel it is no longer the best translation for us to use.
When King James became King of England in 1603, he not only inherited the throne of government, he also became the head of the church of England. At this time there were several factions at work within the Church of England. One of King James first steps as the head of the church was to correct some of these factions so he called a conference together. At the Hampton Court Conference in January of 1604, an off handed comment about English Bible translations from one of the factions, began the thought process that a new, quality, and trustworthy English translation of the Bible was needed. It was here in 1604 that King James commissioned scholars to begin a new work, a new translation.
This new translation was to be arcuate and true to the original. The best Hebrew and Aramaic copies of the Old Testament as well as the best Greek copies of the New Testament were to be used. King James appointed fifty of the nations best language scholars while setting a standard for carefully checking results. Not only did he want it to be accurate, he wanted it to be popular. He wanted the translation to be true to the originals, while using modern (1611 modern) language and idioms. Not only that, but he wanted the translation to be usable by the whole nation, so that all could read and understand it.
King James also outlined rule #6: “No Marginal notes at all to be affixed, but only for the explanation of the Hebrew or Greek Words.” One of the problems of the previous English versions were teaching notes in the margins. King James saw these as biased. If explanation of a word meaning needed to be made, that was okay, but they were not to interpret an entire verse.
After seven years of work, the first edition was published in 1611. This was a monumental work. In 1611, the KJV was the best vernacular translation of the Bible that had ever been created to date. For hundreds of years, this translation has stood the test of time.
However, while the translation work in 1611 was wonderful, it was not without its own bias. The work done in translation did have some errors. At the time of its translation, they used the best manuscripts of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek they could get their hands on. In the four hundred years since the translation, we now have older and better manuscripts to work from. Not only that, but work was done to preserve some of the teachings of the Church of England in 1611, which were not exact;u biblical. But those issues are not my biggest problems with the KJV.
My biggest issues is that four hundred years have passed since the KJV was published in 1611. In those four hundred years, the English language has drastically changed. While the literary work of the KJV is absolutely brilliant, beautiful, and stunning, many words have changed meaning. Take 1 Corinthians 13:4 for example: “Charity suffereth long and is kind; charity envieith not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.” First, let’s look at the word charity. If I look in a modern dictionary, the word charity is defined as an organization set up to provide help, or a voluntary giving of help. That is not the intent of the verse. The intent of the verse is love. The words suffereth, envieth, and vaunteth are not even recognized by my spell check program. I share that, to give example of our how language and the use and spelling and pronunciation of words have changed. A very modern English translation of the Bible, highly regarded by scholars, The English Standard Version, translates this verse: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.” This modern translation holds to the desire of King James, that a version of the Bible be usable by all English-speaking people.
While I hold that the KJV was a terrific translation of the Bible in 1611, it was not without its faults even in its own day. Today, after four hundred years, I believe our English language has changed enough that it is time for new, modern, and accurate translations, using our vernacular of our day and time. In our next installment, I will share some of the translation I believe are good modern texts that are true to true original Biblical manuscripts. _- In Christ’s Service, Michael
