Present-tense Subject Verb Agreement

Present-tense Subject Verb Agreement• Making sure our subjects and verbs match each other in

present-tense

• Basically, do we add an “s” or not?

• Is it walk or walks? Eat or eats? Play or plays?

Singular subjects• Add an “s”•One person/thing• If you can replace it with HE, SHE, or IT, it’s singular

• Exception: helping verbs get rid of the “s”• She can walk, Does he eat?, Will she have that?

Plural subjects

• No “s”• Just regular present-tense• If you can replace it with THEY, it’s plural

• I, YOU, WE also get just regular present-tense
