Whether your goal is finding a career after graduation or continuing on to a four-year university, getting

financial aid can help you pay for college now, and finish with little to no debt or a more manageable payment

plan. There are countless opportunities to get financial aid that can help you pay for your Ivy Tech education. Our

staff is available at a location close to you, over the phone or online to answer your questions as they come up.

From grants and scholarships, to loans and available work study programs, the aid you may qualify for can

come from a variety of sources. U.S. citizens, eligible non-citizens, high school graduates, and Indiana High

School Equivalency Diploma recipients may all be eligible for financial aid. The first step for anyone looking

to get help paying for college is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov.

Before the start of every academic year, file the FAFSA so the U.S. Department of Education and Ivy Tech

financial aid administrators can determine your eligibility. The FAFSA is the starting point for almost all

financial aid opportunities, and it is essential you submit one every year.

Financial Assistance to Help You Succeed

To be considered for state and federal aid, you must file the FAFSA. For

state aid, you must file by April 15th of your academic year. Federal

applications are accepted year-round, and Ivy Tech has established

financial aid priority processing dates for each enrollment period.

To have your application processed quickly, you’ll need to submit all

required paperwork by the priority processing date for the semester

you’re attending. We recommend starting your application process at

least three to four weeks before the priority processing date. If you

miss it, your application will still be accepted, but you may not receive

aid in time to help pay for tuition and books.

Find priority processing dates at IvyTech.edu/financial-aid..

FAFSA BASICS Getting Started To learn about all the items you’ll need to file, including your tax return information, visit IvyTech.edu/fafsa.

Once you’ve gathered everything, you can get an idea of what the actual FAFSA is like by completing

the downloadable “FAFSA on the Web Worksheet” at fafsa.ed.gov.

Your FAFSA ID To sign the FAFSA electronically and access financial aid information later, you will need a Federal Student

Aid identification number (FSA ID). You can create one by visiting fafsa.ed.gov. If you already have a

Federal Student Aid PIN, you can enter it and link it to your FSA ID. Once you have created a FSA ID, it

becomes your permanent FSA ID for use from year to year. Do not try to create a new one each year—

this will cause FAFSA processing errors.

Don’t wait to file your FAFSA You can submit as early as October 1 in the year prior to your school attendance. You’ll need to supply

completed income and tax information from the year before your application. For example, if you want to

file your FAFSA for the 2018-2019 academic year, you will use your 2016 taxes. You can also use the IRS Data

Retrieval Tool (visit StudentAid.gov/irsdrt) to automatically import your tax information. This is a very beneficial

feature because it saves you time filling out the FAFSA each year, and also reduces your chances of being

selected for verification, which might slow down the process. Be sure to enter the Ivy Tech school code 009917

to ensure we receive a copy. We need to receive your information to put together your award package.

After You File Upon FAFSA filing, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) at the email address you provided, generated

by the U.S. Department of Education. Check your SAR to make sure all the data is correct, and make

any necessary changes online. If you haven’t received your SAR within three weeks of filing, visit fafsa.ed.gov

or call 800-4-FED-AID to check the status of your FAFSA.

Ivy Tech School Code To ensure we receive an electronic copy of your FAFSA, include the Ivy Tech Community College school

code 009917. This code is used for all Ivy Tech locations.

To apply for most gift aid, you will need to complete your FAFSA. Qualifications vary according to each

gift, but many take factors such as financial need, National Guard service, personal relationships/status,

veteran status, seasonal farm work, and more into account.

Scholarships Each year, Ivy Tech awards nearly six million dollars in scholarships. Like other gift aid, scholarships do not

need to be repaid. Once you’ve registered for classes, you can apply to be considered for most Ivy Tech

scholarships through the student portal, MyIvy. Many funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis,

so we strongly recommend applying early.
