Three Steps Toward Your Future The Basic Equation Student Employment

You can apply for financial aid in three simple steps:

1. Complete CSS (College Scholarship Services) PROFILE.

The CSS PROFILE application collects information about family income, expenses, and assets. This application enables us to build the financial profile of students by understanding your financial situation in the context of your local economy. To be considered for financial aid awards from NU-Q, students must complete the CSS PROFILE. Northwestern CSS PROFILE code is 1565.

2. Upload supplemental financial documents to admission portal.

After submitting the NU-Q admission application and sending the CSS PROFILE, upload supplemental documents directly to your student portal. Based on the total cost of attendance, we will estimate the expected family contribution.

3. Apply for Qatar Foundation (QF) Financial Aid.

QF offers interest-free education loans to all students who have secured acceptance to NU-Q. The application for first-year students opens on April 1, and the online form is at fas.qf.org.qa.

Repayment Since QF financial aid is provided at zero interest, you would only have to pay back the principal amount that you received as aid from QF. There are two options for students to repay their loan after graduation:

· Standard Repayment: Upon graduation, students can commit to pay up to 15% of their monthly salary until the total loan is repaid.

· Paid Service Repayment: Qatar is committed to student learning and development as it seeks to secure its goal of creating a knowledge-based economy. As such, QF has a list of over 300 QF-approved companies. If you find employment in one of the QF-approved companies, in addition to receiving all employment benefits, your education loan payment will be waived each month. The maximum monthly benefit is $2,250, or up to six years and/or total of $162,000. The QF financial aid program forgives the remaining balance on your account after you have completed a maximum of 72 months, or six years, of service for a qualifying QF-approved employer.

Full-time students may work up to 20 hours per week and typically earn $7–11 per hour, which may cover expenses such as transportation, food, or other miscellaneous fees.

Financial expectations for enrolling students:

Enrollment Deposit

Once admitted, you will have to secure your seat by making an admission deposit of $400.

Flights

If you are an international student, you are required to book your own flight to Doha, Qatar.

Housing Deposit

If staying on campus, you would also be required to make a security deposit of $550.

The basic equation that guides our financial aid awards is below:

Know Your Terms

Estimated Annual Cost of Attendance

This is the estimated cost of attendance, which includes both direct costs (expenses paid directly to the college) and indirect costs (expenses incurred as a result of attendance that the student/family may pay to a third party other than the college for things like airfare, etc.).

Expected Family Contribution

This is the total amount that we estimate that the family can contribute annually.

Estimated Need-Based Award

This is the total amount estimated to be received from Qatar Foundation Financial Aid and an NU-Q grant. This is contingent upon successful application to QF Financial Aid and possible appeals.

Merit Scholarships

These are a limited number of highly competitive scholarships for students of exceptional scholastic achievement. Students are automatically evaluated during the admissions process. Grantees will be informed of any awards in their acceptance letter from the University.
