Hofstra at a Glance Statement of Mission and Goals: “Hofstra University provides a quality education to its students in an environment that encourages, nurtures, and supports learning through the free and open exchange of ideas for the betterment of humankind.”
In fall 2014 we awarded $31.4 million to first-year students, and a total of $89.9 million institutional gift assistance was awarded to all entering undergraduate students.
Now is the time to take the next step toward making the best investment possible in your future. Grounded in the liberal arts, a Hofstra education provides the foundation for a life well lived. Plus, research† shows that those with a bachelor’s degree will earn 84 percent more – almost $1 million – over a lifetime than high school graduates.
At the core of the Hofstra University experience is individualized attention. The campus is large enough to offer world-class resources, but you won’t get lost in the crowd here. In your first year, you’ll be assigned a dedicated advisement dean as well as a student financial services counselor. And when you choose a major, a member of our faculty will mentor you.
This personal attention carries into the classroom. With an average undergraduate class size of 21 and student-to-faculty ratio of 14-to-1, you can expect your voice to be heard.
You’ll also have access to an active, thriving network of more than 128,000 successful alumni who can help you build the confidence and connections you need to reach new heights.
Enjoy the benefit of living and learning on a beautiful, lush campus that is within easy reach of New York City and hundreds of internship and career opportunities with leading businesses, arts/media companies, nonprofit organizations, and government institutions. At Hofstra, you’ll get the traditional campus experience along with the adventure, cultural resources and real-world applications of an international metropolis.
Hofstra University works hard to make a private college education affordable for you and your family, and offers several financial aid options for new undergraduates, including interest-free payment plans and a money-saving four-year locked-in tuition rate that can help you manage costs from admission through graduation (hofstra.edu/lockedintuitionrate).
Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. A Hofstra degree gets you results.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Hofstra University!
With self-directed projects, interdisciplinary studies and engaging professors, Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (HCLAS) will help you discover an appreciation for history, language, art and science, and develop the critical thinking skills that are needed in today’s workplace.
With classes in the natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, students realize and grow their passions both in and out of the classroom, whether it’s using the computerized Celestron and radio telescopes on the rooftop Hofstra Observatory, traveling to the Galápagos Islands or the Amazon rainforest to explore one of the most geographically exciting and biologically diverse places on Earth, interning in Congress, or exhibiting or performing their work in one of the many theaters and art galleries on campus.
In addition, all first-year students may participate in First-Year Connections seminars and clusters, small classes with distinguished faculty, which are designed to introduce you to the intellectual and social life of the University as well as help satisfy the general education requirements for all majors.
HCLAS is composed of the Division of Humanities, the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the Division of Social Sciences; more than a dozen interdisciplinary programs; and the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, the Center for Civic Engagement and the Center for the Study of Labor and Democracy.
HCLAS offers students a wide array of majors and minors, ranging from musical theater to urban ecology to business economics, as well as several dual degree programs that allow you to earn both an undergraduate and graduate degree in less time than if each degree was pursued separately. HCLAS also offers a premed curriculum as well as LEAP (Legal Education Accelerated Program), which allows students to complete the Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor in six years instead of seven – saving time and one year’s worth of tuition.
HCLAS students have the opportunity to pursue internships within a wide range of industries and organizations, including book and magazine publishers, museums, advertising agencies, nonprofit groups, television and cable networks, record labels, the U.S. Congress, the New York State Assembly, and the United Nations.
