Finance Matters Put sustainability at the heart of finance

Page 2: Finance Matters - Who We Are

The context: an opportunity to make sustainable finance mainstream

A new generation of finance professionals

ready for a new system of finance

Governments can’t afford to provide basic public services – opening space for business to

step in

Capital doesn’t always flow in ways that are

positive for people and planet

Intermediaries governing the flow of capital lack a

deep knowledge of sustainability

Businesses with a profit & purpose mandate

face complex paths to scale

Career and personal choices made by this generation will shape the financial system’s contribution to sustainable development for years to come

Our vision: we want to put sustainability at the heart of the financial system

Where social and environmental factors are integrated into all

decision-making

That serves the long-term real needs of the

economy

In which a career in finance is personally and professionally

fulfilling

Our story •  Finance Matters is a London-based social

enterprise •  Founded by two women working private equity

and sustainable investing, motivated by opportunity to integrate greater social and environmental impact across the financial system, and based on the belief that the individual can be the source of positive change

•  Launched in September 2012 with the mission to put sustainability at the heart of finance –and give every finance professional the tools to pursue sustainable finance in their own career

We believe choices made by individual professionals in finance are critical to making sustainable finance a reality – and provide the tools to make it happen

Page 6: Finance Matters - Who We Are

Our growth •  Today, Finance Matters has a community

membership of 1,000 individuals working in finance or associated with the London financial services industry

•  Our founding team has expanded to a core team of four women, with a rotating base of 4-6 additional volunteers

•  ~350 individuals read our social investment market updates in our Finance Matters Weekly each week

•  Our events and workshops on sustainable finance and impact investing are typically attended by 20-35 individuals – delivering a deeply engaging and inspiring experience for a small group

We have delivered dozens of events and workshops that encourage people in finance to think about their relationship to sustainability – and put new concepts into practice
