Finance MAJORING IN FINANCE Finance majors at Davis & Elkins College can expect multiple opportunities in the job market. Upon graduation they are prepared to pursue positions such as financial manager, financial analyst, personal finance advisor, sales agent, loan officer and more. Finance graduates are also prepared to work in the fields of securities, commodities and financial services. They are also well prepared to pursue education at the graduate level. Graduates in finance can expect that services provided by financial managers, such as planning, directing and coordinating investments, will continue to be in demand as the economy grows. We offer small classes (with a student-faculty ratio of 16:1) taught by extraordinary faculty dedicated to your academic success. Students study a broad range of issues dealing with business finance, investments, and macroeconomics. Topics include investment analysis, corporate finance, business ethics, real estate investment and portfolio management, insurance, and risk management. Active Learning Internships provide opportunities for all students studying in the Division of Business and Entrepreneurship (including Finance majors) to apply knowledge gained in the classroom while making meaningful contributions to the organization for which they work. D&E’s Division of Business and Entrepreneurship is very supportive of student internships. Students can learn about internships through the College’s Office of Career Services & Student Employment. Division of Business and Entrepreneurship students have been successfully placed in private businesses, government agencies as well as campus administrative offices. Students may also generate internship opportunities on their own through family and friends, professional acquaintances, and internet sources. Internships not only equip students for a position in their area of interest, they also test and confirm genuine interests in particular fields, and contribute to strong resumés when students seek employment.
