MayaWorks is a fair trade nonprofit organization that promotes economic development for Maya women and their families by creating a marketplace for their handcrafted goods. MayaWorks believes that community development happens through the economic development of women who otherwise have limited ways to participate and contribute to the economic health of their communities.

MayaWorks partners with over 125 artisans in 6 communities along the central highlands of Guatemala. All artisans are paid a fair wage for their work. Additionally they are supported through microloans to start their own businesses, literacy and skills trainings, and scholarships to send their daughters to school. MayaWorks Recycled Products Collection features repurposed fabric from Maya womens’ blouses, or "huipiles". These fabrics are originally woven on a backstrap loom using ancient and modern techniques. The unique and vibrant fabrics are reused and applied to MayaWorks high quality products. The cornhusk angels are handmade using dried and recycled cornhusk from the corn grown in the Mayan highland communities.

Our bright and fun collection of Florecita, or “little flower” bibs, booties, crochet hats, Mary Janes, and baby blankets feature a traditional Maya artisan weave. They are produced by the Agua Caliente, Tzanjuyu, and Chixot groups in Tecpán and Comalapa.

Clerical Stoles The town of Santiago is situated on the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlán. The stole weavers of the small hamlet, Panabaj, create these stunning religious garments on a small foot loom.

A. Kippot - 5 inch (PK - 5), 6 inch (PK - 6)Best Seller!

In the small communities of Santiago Atitlán and San Marcos, on the shores of Lake Atitlán in the highlands of Guatemala, approximately 60 Maya artisans work together to crochet kippot for sale through MayaWorks. Each kippah takes approximately 2-3 hours for an artisan to create. Artisans are paid a fair wage for their work as well as receiving other benefits such as literacy trainings, eye exams, skills and leadership trainings, as well as scholarships for artisans’ daughters to attend school.

B. Mezuzzot (MZ)These dazzling beaded mezuzzot have a beaded top that can be opened to fit a scroll with verses from the torah.

Celebrate a special moment with our Tallit sets! MayaWorks exclusive fair trade tallit and tallit bag are handwoven by Lila and other artisans in Comalapa. Matching kippot are hand-crocheted in San Marcos La Laguna. Tallit are decorated with Mayan inspired star shapes and stripes on either end of the tallit. The matching bag measures 13”x10” and matching kippah is 6” in diameter. Fringe on the tallit is hand-tied and arrives without tzitzit.
