Film Name: Life of Hermit

Genre: Drama

Target Audience: Age Rating: 15

Target Audience: 15 – 44 year olds

Took inspiration from the following films:

FRANK 2014

This film has similarities in the idea that is has the main character wearing a

mask. Slightly different to ur where the rest of the cast wears mask however it

does give an idea to the audience who has interest in the type of film. We

gathered that 15 - 24 year olds and 35 - 44 year olds had the main percentage ofinterest completely missing out the middle section so this really gave us the idea

that a wide variation of audiences can like the film.

THW WAY WAY BACK 2013

Unusually as this film is based on a teenager the idea would be that the main

percentage of the audience would be 15 - 24 year olds however it was actually

the category of 45+ year olds who had the highest interest which also lead us to

believe that this type f film interests older audiences. We chose this film as it

resemble the unusual subverted teenage male like our film and its activities. No

one under 15 watched it which makes us support the 15 rating.

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2004

We chose this film as it resembles the settings such as school, social activities but

also the characters as they are mostly teenagers and their interactions between

each other. As it is a family film we gathered that the audience would also attract

the younger audience but what it also showed was the increase of 15 - 24 year

olds that watched it.

Main Plot

30 Seconds –

This would be a quick sequence of the Main Character gettingready to go out, he is a 17 year old male and over head is a narration. We then

see bits of his house where there are photo frames, in the photo frames are

pictures of him with masked people, each mask has a different emotion shown

on them.

3 minutes and 30 Seconds – This will see 10, 20 second clips of him and his

friends having and doing activities together. However the friends are all wearing

masks. Over head there is a narration

1 minutes - Concludes the ending

10 masked friends – Playing catch the flag – ends with the white flag -

This segment will show the 10 friends and Hermit playing catch the




flag, on his team are the happy sort of masks while on the other team

are the angry ones. They are at war symbolizing the idea of him

confronting and trying to fight his friends, emotions, at the end he

raises the white flag, this symbolizes peace with his friends, emotions

and so the rest of the clips portray this. 9 masked friends – Gym playing a game together - We see then 9

friends plus Hermit playing a game of basketball together a friendlier

type of confrontation in contrast to the last symbolizing a healthier

fight with his friends, emotions in which he will have.

8 masked friends – Party Dancing - We see 8 of his friends pus Hermit

at a party dancing together symbolizing the idea of the uniting to have

a good time together at a arty and having fun.

7 masked friends – Spin the Bottle - We see 7 of his friends and Hermit

playing spin the bottle and two masks having to kiss, they are alllaughing and this symbolizes love for his friends, emotions.

6 masked friends – Cinemas - We see 6 of his friends and Hermit at a

cinema where this symbolizes how much in common they have as they

are now socializing together.

5 masked friends – Swimming Pool scene - We see 5 of his friends and

Hermit in a swimming pool again socializing getting more and more

comfortable with each other.

4 masked friends - Fight Scene - We see 4 of his friends and Hermit

having a fight as confrontations still can happen between friends,emotions.

3 masked friends - This scene will show the 3 remaining masked

friends comforting Hermit from the previous argument.

2 masked friends – David in bed with them - This representing a more

loving side and a humorous scene in which we might get a comical

effect.

1 masked friend – Just David revealing the mask - We see both

characters looking at each other, the masked person reveals the mask

and it is David himself.The film will then begin to perform a flashback of all these scenes again

however he was alone the entire time.

He would then wake up the same way he did in the first shot and

explains how he his actually happy to be alone. The film would end with

Hermit walking away from the camera in front of the school or at a

park as the film fades away.

Main Character:




Hermit - We found out that Hermit is the name for loneliness which will be

presented as a theme

10 Masked People:

All having different emotions. They do not have names as they are only

recognized by their mask feature, whether it be sad, angry, confused.

Settings: - Swimming Pool – We shoot the swimming pool in school, we also have 3

lifeguards if needed and we just need to check whether or not we could film

there (Swimming Pool Scene)

- Jess House - We would shoot the party scenes here and the spin the bottle

scene also (Party Scene, Spin the Bottle Scene)

-Lecture Theatre - We would shoot this for the cinema scene (Cinema Scene)

-Gym - We would shoot the gym scene here (Gym Scene)

-Woods - We would shoot the beginning scene here (Plying Catch the Flag)

- School - We could use certain parts of the school to shoot a few scenes as it iseasily accessible we can get equipment easily without the worry of it getting

stolen and we can access the school from half 3 to 6 most days (Fight Scene,

David unraveling the mask)

-Robbie's House - We would create a shot where Hermit is lying down with a girl

as the room is a good representation of a typical male teenager.

Props:The Masks - From Drama we can use the Trestle masks which show the different

emotions if we are not allowed then we can buy a few (The masked people)

The Bottle - Easily get from any of us (The Spin the bottle scene)

Party type props - I have some, easily buy some balloons and party cups etc.

Flag - We can get white sheet easily (the flag Scene) Gym - Hopefully they will allow us to use their ball and bibs (The Gym Scene)




Costumes:MAIN CHARACTER

- Whatever fits the scene but bright colours to represent happiness, such as

yellow.

MASKED PEOPLE

- Whatever fits I with the scene but the colours would need to be plain and

preferably white representing peace with emotions. For example, in the Gym

they would wear Gym type clothes, shorts with a top and a headband, when they

are in the swimming pool they would wear swimming costumes or a life guard

outfit etc.

David getting ready: Pyjamas getting changed to normal clothes

10 Masked people: Wearing camo type clothing with 2 separate colours to show

the 2 teams against each other trough the use of cloths tied around each others

and wearing clothes showing the colour9 masked people: Gym clothes with the 2 bibs with different colors on. Headband

maybe, shorts and a gym top.

8 masked people: Party clothes that people of our age would wear today.

7 masked people: The same clothes from the party.

6 masked people: All the cast will be wearing stereotypical teenage clothes.

5 masked people: All the cast will be wearing appropriate swimming costumes

for this scene.

4 masked people: The fight scene will also include stereotypical teenage clothes

however there may be elements of red in the clothing to represent a more

angrier side of Hermit's personality

3 masked people: The same clothes as the 4 masked people scene

2 masked people: Again. stereotypical teenage clothes

1 masked people: Both Hermit and the masked person are wearing the same

clothes to show they are the same.

Conforming Ideas:- They are doing activities teenagers would do such as partying, spin the bottle,

kissing, swimming etc.

-This also supports the short film conventions as short films usually doesn't

make sense until the last moment.

-The short film will also last 5 minutes

Subverting Ideas:- David an unusual teenager

- Happy to be alone

Risks

-There is a chance that the camera could be damaged in the swimming pool

scene however we will prevent this as everyone on set will take caution, the

camera will always be a few meters away from the pool and no one wet will be

able to touch it. We also have 2 available lifeguards who will be able to be with us

when filming.




-Some of the shots are time consuming to create however not difficult to shoot.

-The are also some shots that will be difficult to shoot such as the vertigo shot

and there is a few difficult editing tricks to create however we have all decided to

practice with all these techniques, weeks prior to the actual filming.
