Purpose of manual:The purpose of our manual is the delegate authority, allow for easy access to

information for our staff, describe expectations such as dress code and preparation, and

define rules and procedures that should be followed at all times.

History:Warrior Athletic Performance is a new franchise to be opened in 2013. Three

individuals perusing their masters in Exercise Science with a background in pediatric

exercise started warrior Athletic Performance. As previously worked as a part of various

other organizations we have now decided to start our own company. Our franchise is

being established by a strength and conditioning coach, a physical education teacher, and

a nutritionist who all have a deep understanding in exercise science. We each bring a

piece of knowledge from our current jobs to allow Warrior Athletic Performance to be

more valuable than other franchises.

Mission Statement:Our mission is to provide an all-in-one experience to achieve a higher quality of

life; touching all aspects of fitness, performance, and well-being.

Philosophy:All athletes have the ability to improve their performance in their choice of sport by

training key aspects, which will develop them physically. Training an athlete in sports

performance, one could truly advance their abilities to be at the top of their game. Being

an elite athlete is what many of us dream of, and with the knowledge and experience our

coaches have we could achieve that status. Competition is at its highest in today’s

society, and many question where and how they can gain a competitive edge. Well look

4

no further; Warrior Athletic Development is the place where competition is not feared but

sought after.

Objective:

To design and deliver a successful sports-training program that is beneficial to

developing athletes physically and educating them as to why and how it works. While

assisting in the overall improvement of athletes of all ages while targeting balance,

endurance, muscular strength, explosive power, speed, agility, and flexibility.

Keys to Success:

Our keys to success are determination, hard work, motivation, and success.

Determination is making the decision to become better each day. Hard work is giving the

extra effort to exceed expectations. Motivation is staying committed and toughing it out.

Success is reaching your goal and creating new ones.

Descriptions of programs3 Programs Offered:

1. Athlete Speed and agility Training Max velocity (top speed), acceleration, deceleration, change of direction,

Detailed Description of agility program:Athletes will be taught to move in all directions safely and effectively, and most importantly how to stop and shift their body weight properly to perform some of the more complicated movements elite athletes perform on a regular basis. Furthermore, we will also focus on footwork, balance, and coordination to complete and provide the whole package.Detailed description of speed program:Our Speed development classes will break up running into parts and work each segment individually, enhancing one’s running technique which will improve their times overall.

2. Athlete Strength Training Resistance training with own body weight, free weights, and machines

Detailed description of strength and conditioning program:Full body conditioning will be offered to our market; everything from the basic body calisthenics to the more complicated Olympic lifts, kids will enjoy their time getting the results most wanted. Not only will it provide our youths with a good workout but also with the sport specific classes

5

that will increase their strength, consequently improving their abilities in their sport of choice.

3. Nutrition education Educate various age groups on nutrition basics such as reading labels and

proper portion sizesDetailed Description of nutrition program:Members and athletes will be able to consult with a registered dietician to make sure they are getting the food they need with their daily training. Our dietician can come up a personalized program for everyone after an evaluation. Members will notice an increase in energy and increased performance in the workouts with the right foods in their diets.

Code of Ethics:Our code of ethics focuses on a safe and comfortable environment between staff

and athletes to reach the athlete’s highest level of performance. Trainers will have the

knowledge and preparation to assure the athletes are getting the best training possible. At

all times it is essential to provide a safe environment while exercising. Trainers should

serve as a role model for athletes. The trainers should be congruent between actions and

words when interacting with athletes while maintaining a professional relationship

between both the athletes and parents. Trainers should discourage the use of all illegal

performance enhancing drugs. Finally, the trainers should place the athlete’s needs and

interests before their own (Krotee 2007).

6

REFERENCES: Available upon requestHiring Process:

After a position opens the position will be publicized using various career search

websites such as careerbuilder.com. Resumes received will be reviewed by the current

head of the respective department, looking for previous education, certifications, and

experience in the field they are applying for. The individuals with resumes that seem to

fit our needs will be called in for an interview. The current head of the respective

department will hold the interview. Interviews and resumes will again be reviewed and

those we are still interested in and we will ask for a reference list. We will follow up

with the applicant’s references and call back for a second interview. The second

interview will be held with the head of the respective department and the facility director.

At that point there will be a final review of the remaining applicants and a position will

be offered to the one best fit.

Communication:Communication is expected to be constant between all employees, especially

individuals within the same department. Any issues should be reported to their direct

superior. All issues should be handled within the subgroup. If an issue cannot be

resolved then the facility director should be contacted. Monthly meetings will be held

each month with mandatory attendance of all employees to keep everyone on the same

page, make new goals, and continue success. Any miscellaneous subjects such as

recommendations or issues would also be brought up during this time.

Running a Meeting:

Begin the meeting with any topics that are emergencies or with old business. If

no emergencies are present begin with the most important topic and new business. Each

15

meeting will have a printed out syllabus of the day’s topics. The minutes will be

recorded by the membership director and filed away for future reference. The director

will run the staff meetings. His job is to keep the meeting on track regarding the topics

and time; however everyone’s input should be encouraged and acknowledged.

Meetings should be held as a company once a month while mini-meetings should be held

within subgroups one to two times between each company meeting.

Evaluations:

Athletes will be evaluated using pre and post testing. Athlete testing will test

flexibility, strength, agility, and maximum velocity. Collected data will be analyzed and

compared to previous test results along with the national normal values for that age and

gender. Athlete combines can also be conducted to evaluate the athlete’s current

standing.

The training staff will be evaluated on the quality and quantity of training

sessions. They will be expected to set realistic goals and once those goals are met new

ones will be made. An observation and review of each employee will be completed bi-

annually. A meeting with the individual to discuss the observation results, make

corrections, and make recommendations will be scheduled the week following the

observation.

Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and YouRegular physical activity is fun and healthy, and increasingly more people are starting to

become more active every day. Being more active is very safe for most people. However, some people should check with their doctor before they start becoming much more physically active.

If you are planning to become much more physically active than you are now, start by answering the seven questions in the box below. If you are between the ages of 15 and 69, the PAR-Q will tell you if you should check with your doctor before you start. If you are over 69 years of age, and you are not used to being very active, check with your doctor.

Common sense is your best guide when you answer these questions. Please read the questions carefully and answer each one honestly:

YES□

NO□ 1. Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only do

physical activity recommended by a doctor?

□ □ 2. Do you feel pain in your chest when you do physical activity?

□ □ 3. In the past month, have you had chest pain when you were not doing physical activity?

□ □ 4. Do you lose your balance because of dizziness or do you ever lose consciousness?

□ □ 5. Do you have a bone or joint problem that could be made worse by a change in your physical activity?

□ □ 6. Is your doctor currently prescribing drugs (for example, water pills) for your blood pressure or heart condition?

□ □ 7. Do you know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity?

If you

answered:

Talk to your doctor by phone or in person BEFORE you start becoming much more physically active or BEFORE you have a fitness appraisal. Tell your doctor about the PAR-Q and which questions

you answered YES. You may be able to do any activity you want – as long as you start slowly and build up

gradually. Or, you may need to restrict your activities to those which are safe for you. Talk with your doctor about the kinds of activities you wish to participate in and follow his/her advice.

Find out which community programs are safe and helpful for you.

NO to all questions Delay becoming much more active: If you are not feeling well because of a temporary

illness such as a cold or a fever – wait until you feel better; or

If you are or may be pregnant – talk to your doctor before you start becoming more active.

If you answered NO honestly to a ll PAR-Qquestions, you can be reasonably sure that you can:

Start becoming much more physically active – begin slowly and build up gradually. This is the safest and

22

easiest way to go. Take part in a fitness appraisal – this

is an excellent way to determine your basic fitness so that you can plan thebest way for you to live actively.

Please note: If your health changes so that you then answer YES to any of the above questions, tell your fitness or health professional.

Ask whether you should change your physical activity plan.

Informed use of the PAR-Q: Reprinted from ACSM’s Health/Fitness Facility Standards and Guidelines, 1997 by ACSM
