-Gained independence from Great Britain July 10, 1973-Has a population of people between 275,000 and 325,000-Is a grouping of 14 islands-Has most imports come from the UK and Canada, also some parts from the United States-Tourism generates most jobs that are not on the outer islands

-Is friendly, outgoing, informal, and hospitable-Takes sharing a meal as the most common way to build a friendship-Has elements to use self-deprecating remarks or jokes-Respects people who are modest and humble-Takes religion serious-Musical quality is derived from their West African roots-Mostly speak English; French Creole is spoken by Haitian immigrants that inhibit the Bahamas-Does basketry made from palm fronds

-Said to be sandier than most beaches-Crystal clear water, soft white sand-Has one of the top 10 beaches of the world (Harbor Beach)-Beaches attract tourism-Beaches lined with resorts and an incredible night life (Cable Beach)

-A typical meal would consist of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, bread, and rice-Holiday meals focus on fish from the locals or conch, and rice and peas-A lot of commercial and subsistence fishing provides meals for the families-Festival called Junkanoo-Junkanoo combines music, dance, and costume-Junkanoo comes around Christmas and is known as “where the souls bind”
