Daniel Hughes recently joined PCA and the Milwaukee Region with his 2003 911 Carrera 4S Coupe. The car features a Midnight Blue Metallic exterior with Natural Leather Brown interior. The car had 31,660 miles when he purchased it in October 2014. Factory options include heat-ed front seats, Bose high-end sound system and the sport exhaust sys-tem. The vehicle spent just short of 10 years in California, one in Oregon, and now Wisconsin, Daniel reports. "I purchased the vehicle on Oct. 25, 2014, and picked up the vehicle on Nov. 1, 2014. The vehicle was at a dealership in Salt Lake City, so we planned our drive back prior to pick-ing it up and flew out to pick up the car and drive it back. Our journey home consisted of driving out of the mountains of Utah up through Wyo-ming to the Black Hills, Mount Rush-more, and the Bad Lands. We then continued across South Dakota into Minnesota and then back down across Wisconsin," he said. Daniel found the vehicle through the Internet. "I have wanted a 996 body style Carrera 4S for many years now, but I was in the market with the intent to buy one a number of months prior to the actual purchase.

I found a few vehicles that were possibilities but upon further in-quires found out those vehicles weren’t what I was looking for. The vehicle was first for sale by owner in Oregon. The owner was moving for work and felt he could not bring the car along. He traded the vehi-cle in to a dealership for another car, and I contacted the dealership in Salt Lake City (where it was traded in to) and purchased the vehicle," he said. Like many members, Daniel said his interest in Porsche began when he was young. "Like most kids I played with toy cars growing up and loved them but I first became interested in 'real' cars, driving, and car racing around the age of 11. At this time I saw and became interested in the Mercedes Benz SL class. The look was so cool to me and they offered on their website a car configurator. I still can remem-ber the dark shadow picture of the SL65 AMG the site had with a V12. The SL was a cruiser though, and my young interest for motorsport wanted something more sporting. This interest and the rise of the internet with pictures, then videos, and videos on youtube, I found the Porsche 911 which raced and was very successful at it. I was able to see videos with 911 with their dis-

tinct flat 6 engines. I was instantly hooked and that was the car I wanted ad really took my interest off to the races. "The 996 variant was the Porsche 911 of the time when I became interested. As a younger kid I dreamed about the biggest and baddest. That left me with the Tur-bo, which had the huge air intakes on the side and rear wing that ex-tended. The turbo had an issue though. As a kid watching videos, the turbo didn’t have that same loud flat six noise the race cars had, and believing everything Top Gear said as gospel, turbo lag was not as good as natural aspiration. The Carrera 4S had the same big brakes, wide body, wheels, and front and rear bumpers as the tur-bo but also had the engine note I loved without the turbo draw backs. It was the car that I grew up loving and wanting. It embodied the aspects of cars that were most important to me. "My tastes have evolved and inter-ests have grown over the almost 15 years since then, but the 996 Carrera 4S has remained the start of it all. I had been trying to talk my father into buying a sports car since I became interested and he never pulled the trigger. Still being

younger but now actually hav-ing money as a young teenager I didn’t quite know how I would ever accumulate enough extra bucks to allow such a purchase. I wanted to try and find some-thing that suited some of my car desires and reflected that passion. After a lot of research in the marketplace, the forums for reliability information, and so on, it became apparent to me I could dream big and go after the one that started it all," Daniel noted Daniel is a production coordina-tor. His education and work ex-perience has focused on opera-tions and supply chain manage-ment.

By Donna Daufenbach Spring and driving season arrived in time for many to bring out their Porsches for the Spring Tech Ses-sion at CS Motorsports in mid-April. More than two dozen members, friends and family gathered to discuss the cars at Chris Schuh’s shop: a new Cayman GTS, a Cayman race car build, an air-cooled 911 track car and a 944 track car. We were joined by Joel Parker from Canada West who was in the area on busi-ness. Terry Royals reviewed our upcoming Driver Education Events. Friday, May 29, we will be at Blackhawk for an intermediate and advanced DE with a concurrent In-structor Course. Friday, Aug 14, we are at Road America with a DE for all experience levels and a lunchtime tour for veter-ans from the VA and active duty Coast Guard person-nel from the Great Lakes District. Registration is now open at Motorsportreg.com for both events and closes May 16 for the Blackhawk event. Chris Schuh spoke about caring for your Porsche from regular maintenance to track prep and onto dedicated track cars and their needs. We heard about Mark Martin’s recent domination at the Club Race in Road Atlanta GT1 class. After the speakers were finished Joe started Mark’s car on the dyno for us to hear while Chef We-ber grilled.

Mark Weber, region mem-ber, club racer and executive chef at Ma-son Street Grill, regaled us with the story of how he came to be a club racer. From growing up very close to Watkins Glen to finding his car at Chris’s and prepar-ing it as a dedicated track car to participat-ing in Club Race events as far away as Sebring he told us his ex-perience. Then Mark (at right) served the group a freshly grilled lunch of tacos with your choice of sword-fish, shrimp, roast beef or chicken with sides. At-tendees ate while admiring and dis-cussing the vari-ous vehicles peo-ple arrived in.

In late April, Porsche AG reported the company has begun the 2015 year successfully – with growth in deliveries, revenue, and profit in the first quarter. From the begin-ning of January to the end of March, the sports car manufactur-er delivered 51,102 new vehicles, which is 32 percent more than in the previous year. Revenue in the first three months of 2015 in-creased 29 percent to 5.08 billion euros, and operating profit sur-passed the prior year figure by 10 percent, reaching 765 million eu-ros. The number of employees has grown to 22,945, an increase of 12 percent. Matthias Müller, the chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche AG, explained that the sports car manufacturer would stay on course for a successful business year in 2015. A contributing fac-tor toward 2015 expectations is the continued success of the Por-sche Macan, which was introduced last year and will be available for a full 12 months this year. Other highlights are new versions of

Key factors on the debit side are outlays for future model series and future technologies, as well as high investments in the exten-sion and renovation of Porsche production facilities. Research and development costs have nearly doubled at Porsche over the past three years, in particular due to expenses for alternative drives. “In 2015, research and develop-ment costs will once again run at around 9 to 10 percent of sales,” said Meschke.

existing models. They include the GT vehicles – the 911 GT3 RS and Cayman GT4 – as well as the Boxster Spyder and the Panamera Edition. "Our success-ful vehicle derivatives strategy lets us satisfy the wishes of many customers who want to own a comprehensively person-alized vehicle," said CEO Matthi-as Müller. Lutz Meschke, member of the Executive Board Finance and IT at Porsche AG, called attention to the company's continuously high profitability. "The first quarter result of 765 million euros reflects our healthy cost structure and the high profitability of Porsche," the CFO explained. In light of the present currency trends, Lutz Meschke is also optimistic that "with regard to the full fiscal year, we will reach last year's profit at a minimum. We will continue to hold to our strategic returns target of 15 percent," explained Meschke.

We partied like it was 1960 More than 60 members and guests helped the region ob-serve its 55th year as a PCA region on Friday, April 24, 2015, at the Delafield Brewhaus. The event was sponsored by International Autos - Porsche of Waukesha. Over conversation about Por-sches and the many activities the region offers, members enjoyed a beautiful buffet of hot and cold appetizers and beverages of their choice. An informal affair, the evening was a huge success. Current Region President Donna Dau-fenbach took a few minutes to welcome everyone and acknowledge the work of board and committee members past and present. "It is these people who make the region run," she said. On hand for this special event were several of the region's past presidents dating back to the 1980s including (left to right): Gregg Eisenhardt, Donna Daufenbach, George Kowalski, Don Kiepert, Ron Pace, Rick Zinda, Renee Messing, Bob Shellman and Gary Messing. A special thanks to Interna-tional Autos Porsche of Waukesha for sponsoring the evening. Representing Interna-tional Autos - Porsche was Aaron Vrhovnik, certified Porsche sales consultant, and Trevor Erickson, Porsche brand ambassador. Attendees included some of the region's longest-standing members, including founding member Harold "Hal" Zim-dars, as well as several who joined more recently. Region President Donna Daufenbach welcomes the group.

The Milwaukee Region was formed by Porsche Club of America in 1960, five years after PCA was started. Ten members, originally affiliated with the Chicago Region, petitioned PCA in March 1960, seeking a charter for a region in Milwaukee. Fifty-five years later and more than 500 mem-bers strong, the Milwaukee Region is one of 141 regions serving mem-bers across North America.

Improve your driving skills in a controlled, safe environment on the track during our DE sessions The Milwaukee Porsche Club of America Region is announcing its completed DE Schedule for 2015. This year, we will be hosting 3 events and registration is open. More details below. EVENT 1: May 29 — DE at Blackhawk Farms (South Beloit, Ill.) This event is for Intermediate and Advanced drivers (RG 2 (intermediate) and RG3 (advanced)). There will be no instructors available for RG 1 drivers (novice). For those that want a lot of track time and wish that the run sessions could go longer than the typical 25-30 minutes, you will love this event. There will be several sessions that ex-ceed 30 minutes. EVENT 2: May 29 - PCA National-Led Instructor Training Course. We ex-pect this program to sell out, so register early to secure your position. This program is presented by Scott Mann, PCA National Instructor. He will be con-ducting a PCA-approved instructor training program that will involve class time, some track time and pro-vide a lot of opportunity for you to practice the skills you will be learning. This program does a great job of helping you provide coaching and support when given the opportunity to sit in the right seat. Once you are approved, this program has another benefit where you may have the oppor-tunity to lessen your track cost for other DE events when you sign up as a PCA-trained instructor.

Registration: May 22 is the deadline. Go to Mo-torsportreg.com. Check the calendar for May 29. EVENT 3: Aug. 14 — Road America (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) All skill levels welcome! This annual event brings together a road course, ranked as one of the top in the world, you and your car for a great day. This is an event you never want to miss as you get lots of track time and you get to interact with some of our country’s heroes during the vet touring event over lunch. Over the past few years, this event has been grow-ing in popularity with driv-ers from all over the U.S. attending. The two questions we get asked all the time are: 1. Do you have to have a

Porsche to attend? No, we love having a vari-ety of cars attend and

routinely have numer-ous car types with the exception that we can-not allow open wheel vehicles. 2. Can convertibles par-ticipate? Yes. All that’s required is a roll bar or rollover pro-tection and the ability to pass the broomstick test. Registration: Now open on Motorsport-reg.com. Check the cal-endar for Aug. 14. We are looking forward to a great driving sea-son. To get more infor-mation on our club and these events, visit our website at www.PorschePark.org.
