Course OutlineEighteenth Century British Literature and ThoughtM.A. II Semester; January-July 2012Instructor: Sindhu Menon. This course is intended as an introductory survey of some of the significant thought processes and their literary manifestations in 18th century English Literature. A date based cut-off point would be arbitrary as the period thoroughly merits the name of the long 18th century, and is usually spoken of in conjunction with the Restoration and the Age of Sensibility. The border lines therefore are quite flexible. A list of core texts is given below and these will be dealt with in classroom discussions. The rationale behind the selection of the core texts and the approach adopted in the course itself is primarily genre oriented.
