ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE Performance Length: 50 minutes + 10-minute Q&A session with the performers. Age Appropriateness: HARE BRAIN is perfect for years K-6, and students Years 7+ studying Drama or subjects related to the curriculum links listed below. Curriculum Links: Arts, English, Geography, Music, Drama, Visual Arts, Design & Technologies, HASS, Literacy, Critical and Creative Thinking, Personal and Social Capability, Ethical Understanding, Intercultural Understanding Teachers Notes: Your school will receive extensive and detailed Teachers' Notes including classroom activities and learning tools that have been developed by teachers, with links to the Australian Curriculum. Updated to a fantasy world where toys and objects come to life, replete with a crazy gurgling think tank that sparks vacuum cleaners, mops and brushes into a life of their own, Hare Brain tells the tale of Harry and Lucy who are in a slapstick race against time to find the perfect story that will fit the perfect toy. Who will tell the final tale? Harry, the stressed-out marketing guru or Lucy, the considered, gentle storyteller? This work will excite the imagination while exploring the different ways people think. In the great tradition of Spare Parts 39-year history, we have assembled a dynamic team to re-examine the famous Aesop Fable of the Hare and the Tortoise. Given a modern workout by writer Justin Cheek who adapted Tim Winton’s The Deep, the ancient tale gets a makeover from designer Cecile Williams and an original score by our very talented composer Lee Buddle. Like the great hoover of life, Hare Brain will suck you into a gurgling think tank of discussion and debate about the pros and cons of slow and fast. Whatever way you think, you will never contemplate vacuum cleaners, mops, puppetry or story telling in the same way ever again. Ready? Get set...GO!

ADD ON A PUPPET MAKING OR PERFORMING WORKSHOP Puppetry workshops are a fun and inspiring way to encourage the development of creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills… and we're taking them on tour with us. The School of Puppetry Workshops run for 1 hour and can cater for up to 30 students per workshop. We have the ability to run two workshops simultaneously. Workshops Available: FREE Horizon Power Gilbert Workshop: Create and keep your very own Gilbert Lizard. Once constructed our Gilberts are taken on a puppetry adventure, learning to walk, dance and creep out from the shadows. This workshop includes construction, shadow and music play and an insight into the basics of puppetry. Age suitability: 6+ Other Workshops Available: Hand Puppet: This workshop is our most popular! By making their own unique puppet using a range of soft fabric materials, children learn about how character can be constructed through elements of design (colour, shape, texture). Age suitability: age 4+ Advance Puppet Making: Within this workshop students are guided in creating a puppet with additional moving structure. We have deeper conversation about design and look at the basic engineering that goes into making an articulated puppet. This is ideal for students that have already made a hand puppet with us. Our tutors will cater to the needs at the time. Age suitability: age 10+ Object Theatre: Students will be taught to bring life to the everyday object, learning to harness their imagination just like the show heroines, Lucy and Harry. This is a workshop in problem solving, creative thinking and constructive silliness. Age suitability: 8+ and made to accommodate student levels. Performing: Acting, story creation, puppet manipulation and play. This workshop introduces children to performance skills through improvisation and storytelling and is a great addition to a puppet making workshop or enjoy using our professionally made collection of puppets.
