•‘Based on a true story’ commonly used with many films, especially horror stories to build the sense of realism which can captivate audiences.

•Graphic image in centre of poster, very eye-catching for the audience and gives the indication for an older demographic, as this would not be suitable for young children for example.

•The suggestion of a horror genre clear through the image, as is the role of ‘the possession’, as the hand is inside the character.

•Title and release date given clearly at the bottom of the poster to give information to audience as to when they can watch the film.

•‘Darkness lives inside’ tagline also a common theme and links to the movie effectively.

•‘Darkness’ also indicates the horror genre.

•Production company at bottom of poster in smaller writing, it is the title and release date which draw attention.

•The release date is the only text in red – links to danger and also the horror genre as well as standing out from the other text.

•Another eye-catching, focal point image which draws the attention of the audience commonly found with many film posters.

•The eye’s of the boy staring at the viewer gives the feel of him being possessed, linking to a horror genre.

•The weather in the background is another characteristic which links to a horror movie as a storm is very common in these movies.

•Due to these horror characteristics the intended demographic is clearly an older age, a ‘15’ certificate movie, however this is not shown clearly on the poster

•The text includes ‘from the makers of’, potentially drawing in audiences which also enjoyed the other movies.

•The tagline ‘it’s not the house that’s haunted’ again links to the horror genre and builds suspense for the audience.

•The title of the movie is broken up in two different colours, with the red signifying danger/horror, linking to the intended genre.

•The layout of the text is also eye-catching and draws attention from the audience, with the red clearly standing out.

•The production company is again written at the bottom of the poster, as is the release date. The release date is in a slightly larger, bolder font which again gains attention and telling the audience when they can view the film

•Tagline at top of the poster, in bold ‘One of them is not what they seem’ gives the idea, along with the title of the film that the supernatural is involved, linking to a horror genre.

•The central image of the lift – where the film takes place, has an upside down red cross, the sign of the devil.

•The supernatural glow escaping the lift again links to the supernatural and reinforces the idea of the horror genre in this film.

•The central image is also very eye-catching and draws the viewers focus to the image.

•The surrounding of the lift is very dark, which again links to a horror film, as well as giving the idea that the certificate for this film is at least a 15, and that the movie is not suitable for younger viewers.

•The title is well spaced out and clear to read for the demographic.

•‘From the mind of M.Night Shyamalan’ attracts any fans of Shyamalan to watch the film and gives further evidence towards the intended target audience.

•‘The night chronicles begin’ gives the sense that this could become a franchise and that could draw attention from potential viewers, for the universal release, stated bottom right.
