• It is important to remember that movie posters are advertisements. The goal of the poster is essentially is to sell the move, to make you want to see it.

• The poster may have the movie title in a big and bold font. Images of the movies attractive actors are usually featured. In addition, the actors names are probably included somewhere to remind you that the movie has big name stars.

• Designs, colours and fonts are used to approximately reflect the mood and tone of the film.

AUDIENCE

Language • Images of the key settings and the main characters need to

be shown. (Sonder) • Who is staring in the film? (Florence, Eimontas) • We need to describe the key images in the poster and why

have they ben chosen. For example and both character sitting on s bench) this idea stemmed from ‘The Help’ poster. In our film we have a scene where Eimontas is sitting on a bench counting his money. Making this a significant moment and using it as a starting point for a film poster.

• Why considering making a film poster you need to take in consideration of – stars, settings, colours symbols (mise en scene)

Colours • When making my poster I need to

consider what colour are going to be used; if they are relevant to the genre eg: a horror poster would generally use dark strong colours especially black and red to represent death and evil. • Romance films tend to employ lightened pastel and warm colours such as purples and other warm colours. The colours in my poster are

important as the genre of our film is a comedy/drama. I think we should use strong bright colours to but also subtle tones with a shade of darkness to show the two different aspects of the short film.

Layout • I need to decide the way the images in my

poster are going to be laid out. • Whether they are blended in without any

concern for real perspective or size relationships between people and setting.

• I also need to focus on the title as in what font, typeface and graphics are going to be used on the poster.

• Also the style they are in, where they are positioned etc.

• The improvement in technology has made it a lot easier to be able to produce a life like poster with great graphics.

USP - the unique selling point

Production Constraints

• My poster can also give you important information about the production context of the movie, for example how much does the poster tell you about the institutional context of the movies production.

Different types of posters

• Character poster – this would feature the main character or in this case the main characters.

• It could be a combination of two types so that it gives away the genre as well or is a teaser.
