FILM OPENING STORY BOARD

Page 2: Film opening story board

PICTURE 1

Establishing shot: Point of view tracking shot down the Church walk way. Camera stops abruptly and then pans up to show Church setting.

Deviation: Instead of panning upwards to show the setting, we rotated the camera to reveal the central protagonist in one of the pews.

PICTURE 2

Side profile of character sat in pew, close up shot of feet, so you cannot see their face.

Deviation: Instead of a close up shot of the feet, we used a mid shot, this was to show more of the body of the character.

PICTURE 3

Over the shoulder shot of the younger version of Christa sat in a pew.

Deviation: Instead, we had an over the shoulder shot of the older version of Christa outside in the graveyard, with her hair blowing in the wind.

PICTURE 4

Close up of crucifix to be apart of all of the religious imagery and symbolism.

PICTURE 5

Panning shots of large stained glass window, followed by other shots of religious imagery. E.g religious scripture and candles.

PICTURE 6

Side profile close up shot of a the younger version of Christa (central protagonist). Hair or hands obstructing the view of her face, she’s crying but the view is not clear.

Deviation: Instead of having the girl crying, we had her pray. This was to provoke a sense of irony once you had read the overall plot outline and we also felt it was more appropriate for the character considering the setting they were in.

PICTURE 7

Close up shot of the older version of Christa in the exact same position.

Deviation: Instead of this version being still and looking down, as the picture shows, we had her pray like the previous character. This was to highlight how they are the same person but from different time periods and so by mirroring each other, it helps to communicate this to the audience.

PICTURE 8

Returns to establishing shot of looking down the centre of the pews, down to the front of the Church.

Deviation: This shot was not included in the final cut, however the 2 proceeding shots are. This is because we altered where these shots would be placed within the film opening, in the midst of editing.

PICTURE 9

The return to the establishing shot then dissolves in to reveal the older version of the central protagonist. The dissolve makes it seem like she has appeared from nothing.

Deviation: They only thing we changed about this shot and the next one are there placing in the film opening. They are much closer to the beginning now.

PICTURE 10

Previous shot dissolves into this shot which reveals the younger version of the central protagonist in an identical position to the previous shot. The dissolve makes it seem as though the previous version of Christa has turned into the one in this shot. (Younger one).

PICTURE 11

Mid shot of a cross on the wall, the cross the turns upside down as the symbol of the ant-Christ.

Deviation: Ella and I decided against doing this as we thought it would be disrespectful to do this with one of the crucifixes from the Church. Therefore, this shot is not included in our piece any longer.

PICTURE 12

Use the cross from the previous shot for the ‘T’ in ‘ANTI’. The background will fade to black, then the title will fade out, leaving the cross alone on the black screen.

Deviation: We were unable to use an upside down cross for the ‘T’ in ’ANTI’ due to reasons in the previous post.

ADDITIONS

In our storyboard there is no sign of any external shots. When we arrived at the location where we were going to film, we thought that the graveyard setting had perfect gothic elements that we wanted to include. The weather of that day also reinforced the gothic elements as it was extremely cold and windy due to storm Kate. We incorporated some of the ideas from the shots in the story board which where internal to external. An example of this is below.
