Film magazines

Empire

Empire magazine is the biggest selling, most respected film magazine on the planet. It is a more commercial magazine compared to other less known film magazines such as

Sight and Sound.

The target audience of the magazine is predominately male between the ages of 15 onwards, particularly movie enthusiasts who are serious about film, this is shown through the flashy images used on the covers which define the film and it’s genre

making images iconic such as the image of Heath Ledger as the Joker.

The films presented in this magazine are usually big budget movies which are shown in the special effect packed stills shown through out the magazine and in the feature

articles.

Sight and sound is a more independent film magazine compared to Empire’s focus on more mainstream , American targeted films and reviews all released films each month including small art house films.

The target audience for sight and sound has been considered a “highbrow consumerism” being a more up market magazine which is shown through it’s consistent and more generic layout (format).
