Each day you can pick 1. 1 English activity 2. 1 Maths activity 3. 1 other activity We suggest that these tasks could be completed throughout the day, in 20/30 minute bursts with breaks in between. We have also included a list of our usual daily tasks to run alongside the English, Maths and Other Curriculum Areas activities. Some activities will need online access, please remember that this does not need to be a laptop/PC…this can be accessed using different platforms such as laptop, computer, Ipad, android tablet, kindle fire, mobile phones, etc. If you have any problems accessing the activities below, please contact your class teacher via the class email address. ENGLISH MATHS OTHER CURRICULUM AREAS Monday Spellings – finding good words! Read Chapter 1 of The Ickabog which you can find at this link. https://www.theickabog.com/king- fred-the-fearless/ It is important to extend our vocabulary through reading and use words that we find in our own writing. I would like you to find words in Chapter 1 which you think you could use when writing next. Make a list, check you understand what they mean and then learn them. I would think you could find at least 10! Or you could use the book you are currently reading at home! Multiplication/Division – rules of divisibility It is always good to have some handy tips to help us when calculating. Rules of divisibility can help us work out multiples of a number. Look at the rules of divisibility in this week’s resources. Now use these to complete the questions in this week’s resources. Remember you can choose A, B or C! Or have a go at these problem solving activities! Division Rules - https://nrich.maths.org/10490 - Curious Numbers - https://nrich.maths.org/7218 What have you found out? Let me know! Geography Maps are extremely important for giving us information about different places. Have a look at this website and explore - https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/mapzone/ Then focus on map symbols. In Chapter 1 of The Ickabog, we are given a lot of detail about Cornucopia. Read the sheet in this week’s resources and using the information together with any other details in Chapter 1, draw a map of Cornucopia using the knowledge you have learnt above and create some excellent map symbols for the different features. Here is an example – it just needs a key!

Science – solving mysteries!Just like authors often deal with clues so do forensic scientists in real life. Forensic scientists study many different areas of science to solve problems. Some of these problems might be helping the police understand what happened at a crime scene by matching fingerprints, running DNA tests on collected samples or identify unknown materials which could be significant to a police investigation. DNA sampling might help match a piece of evidence to a suspect. The samples are put through various tests which result in a pattern. The forensic scientist will try to spot similarities or matches in the patterns they find. You are going to investigate your finger prints – what can you find out? See the resource sheet.

A Time to Build

A long time ago, there lived a man called Nehemiah, who worked for the king in a country a long way away from his own country. The king liked him, but Nehemiah often felt homesick and wished he could go back to where he had grown up. One day, he heard that his home town, Jerusalem, was in a mess. The walls had been knocked down and many buildings were falling apart – everything needed rebuilding: people’s homes so that they had somewhere to live; the temple so that they had somewhere to go and worship God; and the walls around the city of Jerusalem so that they would be protected from their enemies. Nehemiah made a decision: he had to try to do something about rebuilding Jerusalem.

The next morning, Nehemiah went to the king and explained what he wanted to do, saying that he would need some stones and wood. The king was very understanding. He even gave Nehemiah some money to help him. Then, Nehemiah set off on the long journey home.

When he got to Jerusalem, he was shocked by the mess. It was much worse than he had imagined. The walls were collapsing, buildings looked derelict and there seemed little hope that one man could achieve anything. However, Nehemiah soon found that he was not on his own. Many people were pleased to see him and offered to help. It was hard work rebuilding the walls. Some people didn’t want Jerusalem to become strong again and fought to stop the building work taking place. But Nehemiah kept encouraging the people and asking God for help.‘Keep going!’ he said. ‘You are doing really well and I know God will help us finish the job!’After many months of hard work, the houses, the temple and the walls were back to how they had been before. Nehemiah was grateful to everyone who had worked with him. He also knew that God had been with them and helped them, too.
