The Pope’s Prayer Intention for February:

Say ‘No’ to

corruption

That those who have material, political or spiritual power

may resist any lure of corruption.

CHURCH REPAIRS AND CLOSURE: This coming week, the church at Chapel will be closed for repairs and renovation. After masses this weekend all electrics will be removed from the sanctuary in preparation for the ceiling area to be stripped back and re-plastered. By Friday evening the whole area should be repainted ready for services next weekend. In consequence there will only be one mass during this week and that will be on Thursday at New Mills. CAKE SALE (CHAPEL): After both masses next weekend there will be a pre-Lent Cake Sale so all of you on the Camel Diet hang about and enjoy yourself: build up the hump with those reserves of energy to sustain you through the great period of fasting and abstinence. Have you started thinking how you might start preparing spiritually for Easter? FROM THE SPIRITUALITY GROUP AT NEW MILLS: Thanks to everyone who commented on our plans for Lent this year. We have now decided that our Lenten sessions ‘How Holy this Feast’ will take place on the four Mondays of Lent, between 7-30 p.m. and 9-00 p.m. at New Mills Parish Hall. The sessions, led by differing parishioners, will look at the ways in which we can partake in Eucharistic adoration, discussions around it, and how pertinent it is in our Parish life. A short and different service of Eucharistic adoration will take place each week, looking forward to the Eucharistic Congress later in the year. Any further offers of help will be gratefully received – please speak to Mary Robinson or Joe Hennigan direct or via the Parish office WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES: From Bishop Patrick: On 21 August 2017, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin launched the preparation year for the World Meeting of Families which is due to take place in Dublin this summer from the 21st to the 26th August 2018. Pope Francis has indicated his intention to be present for the last part of the gathering, including the Final Mass on 26th August. I am aware that a number of people visit Ireland regularly, or have thought about doing so for some time. This could be a wonderful opportunity for those free and able to attend this global Church event. Details of attending and registering for the Meeting, are available on the WMoF website: www.worldmeeting2018.ie/en/ NEXT SUNDAY’S FINANCIAL REVIEW Annually, on the Second Sunday of February you are provided with a Parish Financial Review: and so, next Sunday, a member of the parish will be bringing you up-to date. LOURDES PILGRIMAGE: The dates are 16th -20th July 2018 (4 nights). It’s clear that a number are thinking seriously of coming along. If you have doubts or concerns, speak with Fr Greg or me.

TAIZÉ: Thank you to all who took part in our latest Taizé prayer evening … the numbers have been growing month on month. Our next gathering will be at 7.00pm on Friday 2nd March and, as it is at the close of the second week of Lent, we shall be praying along a Lenten theme. Put it in your diary and let your friends and neighbours know. AVE REGINA COELORUM: “Hail, Queen of Heaven” - As from Tuesday evening in preparation for Lent, the Marian Anthem changes. Ave Regina Caelorum is one of four Marian antiphons, with following versicles and prayers, traditionally said or sung after each of the canonical hours of the Liturgy of the Hours. The prayer is used especially after Compline, the final canonical hour of prayer before going to sleep.

Welcome, O Queen of Heaven. Welcome, O Lady of Angels Hail! thou root, hail! thou gate From whom unto the world, a light has arisen:

Rejoice, O glorious Virgin, Lovely beyond all others, Farewell, most beautiful maiden, And pray for us to Christ.

(When said as a stand-alone prayer it continues … V. Allow me to praise thee, O sacred Virgin. R. Against thy enemies give me strength. Grant unto us, O merciful God, a defence against our weakness, that we who remember the holy Mother of God, by the help of her intercession, may rise from our iniquities, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. (Many people say, or sing, it in Latin: it flows much better.) ASH WEDNESDAY: 9.30am Mass and distribution of ashes at Chapel 11.00am New Mills … Reconciliation Service and

distribution of ashes in school 2.00pm Marple Bridge … Reconciliation Service and

distribution of ashes in school Parishioners are more than welcome to come into school and celebrate with the children. TRAIDCRAFT THIS WEEKEND: Tea, coffee and refreshments will be served in the Old School, Marple Bridge after both masses next weekend 3rd/4th February. The Traidcraft stall will also be available LUNCHEON CLUB: The next meeting of this illustrious body will be at the New Inn on Friday 23rd February at 12.30pm. There is a list at the back of church to facilitate guaranteeing you a place at the table! 100 CLUB And … the January Winners were … £50 Claire Nuthall; £25 Marie Lawton. Don’t miss out on your chance to win.

Thank you all: Fr. Kevin
