FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT - Year C 6th / 7th APRIL 2019
As we prepare to celebrate the Holiest week in the church calendar it is good for us to enter into the solemn celebrations as fully as possible. The Three Holy Days, known as the Triduum, of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are regarded as one single liturgy spread over three solemn days. It is so important to participate in all three of these ceremonies. The Three Liturgies form a ‘seamless garment’ in which the Paschal Mystery of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection is explored. To miss one of the three would be like skipping a whole third of an event. It is meant to be a holy journey that we embark upon. From ancient times the Holy Thursday Night Mass of the Lord’s Supper and then the 3pm Solemn Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion and then finally the Saturday night Vigil of the Lord’s Resurrection hold pre-eminent position. It is wonderful to attend the Stations of the Cross that will be conducted in the morning of Good Friday, however this is not intended to be an alternative to the sacred 3pm commemoration. The Liturgies in Holy Week are notably longer than the usual Sunday Masses, but something special and exceptional is happening in these. Please come along to these ceremonies prepared
in heart and mind for longer but profound ceremonies in this highpoint of the year.

NEWS FROM THE GOLD COAST CATHOLIC LIBRARY: Let each of us prepare for HOLY WEEK in a special way which is meaningful to us. A personal favourite with me is to meditate on The Words of Jesus from the Cross, drawn from the 4 Gospels and encompassing forgiveness: Mary as Mother; the Psalms in Prayer; the Trinity and the great drama of the Passion. Pick up a copy of the handout!
Among the books and music on display are: He Loved Them to the End (a book which offers meditations on the Gospel Passion of John), Oberammergau (the script of the famous Passion Play) and De Wohl’s classic novel The Spear.
A quiet time to contemplate the image of The Crucifixion can be a rewarding form of prayer. Books containing great art works will help you “gaze” and “enter the scene”.
Read & Return Trolley: “New Stock” of books for you to enjoy are out now! Take a look at the back of the churches.
PROJECT COMPASSION for FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT: Salma featured in Project Compassion 2013. At the time
she was pregnant with her first child, she was sick and terribly frightened. In distress, she sought the help of a midwife trained by Caritas’ Safe Motherhood Program. Six years on, she’s now a healthy mother of two strong, happy children. Salma is committed to giving her children the education they need to provide them with the future she hoped for.
Please donate to Project Compassion 2019 and help reduce infant mortality rates in countries like Bangladesh and provide hope to pregnant women in remote communities for happy and
healthy families.
Lives change when we all give 100%. You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes or by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion
