Death takes the body. God takes the soul. Our mind holds the memories. Our heart keeps the love.
Our faith lets us know we will meet again.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
We are still in the Easter Season, celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and the
resurrection of many loved ones who have died these past few days. From April 5 to April 21
we have prayed with 15 families who have lost a loved one. Our prayers and support go out to these families.
A great blessing for our Family of Parishes is the four active Deacons. While working with all kinds of ministry, they assist
with many of the Funerals, presiding in the Funeral Homes and ministering to the families in their loss. In fact, the Deacons
preside at all of the Funeral Services in the Funeral Homes, while Father Lucio, Father Frank and myself preside at all
Funerals in our churches. We THANK our Deacons for their ministry and hard work within our parishes. God bless you.
We THANK all volunteers that have made our Liturgies during Holy Week and Easter, faith-filled and vibrant, from the
music ministry to decorating to sacristans, staff and all others. THANK YOU! Our next Liturgy Meeting will be Tuesday,
May 22, 7:30 pm at St. Mary’s Parish Center. This meeting will be for all four parishes. We will begin with two separate
meetings, St. Cecilia’s and St. Mary’s will meet for 45 minutes, in the Upper Hall, while St. Bernard’s and Our Lady, Queen
of Martyrs will meet in the Lower Hall at St. Mary’s. The last 30 minutes we will meet together as a Family of Parishes.
Our children continue to celebrate their First Holy Communion from now until May 5/6. Please keep these children in your
prayers and their families. We hope that they join us more often to celebrate their Catholic Faith and receive our Lord in
Holy Communion.
At our last Town Hall Meeting, about 40 people met to discuss our Mission Statement: “We are a Eucharistic community
forming faith-filled disciples of Jesus in loving service of God and neighbor for salvation.” We discussed many ideas
and concerns that we need address, such as :
a) education and catechesis, so we can better understand our Catholic faith
b) things we should avoid, to focus on the important things such as evangelization.
c) how can we improve on what we are doing now, such as social media.
This is only a sampling of our many excellent, faith-filled discussions. The Family of Parishes Pastoral Council will now
take these discussions and suggestions and decide how to proceed. We will inform you as soon as possible.
We have begun the planning of June 17, 2018, 11:00 am, when Bishop Fabbro will join us at Holy Trinity High School in
Simcoe for the Eucharist of our Catholic Family of Parishes in Norfolk. This will be a fabulous celebration of Faith for our
four parishes coming together to worship with our Bishop. Just a reminder that there will be NO Mass celebrated that
weekend, June 16/17 in any of our four churches. Parishioners working on Sunday and not available June 17, may attend
mass in our neighboring parishes.
Annual Parish Appeal for St. Peter’s Seminary Every May, there is a special collection for St. Peter’s Seminary called
“Rekindling the Gift Capital Campaign”. The information is in this bulletin with the return envelope. Please give what you
can to assist us in supporting the Seminary. Make your cheques out to your parish. A suggestion is the amount you give to
your parish weekly. This campaign runs for four years. Below is our Parish Goals.
Parish Per Year Total 4 Year Goal

Message from Ian Duckworth
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, 'Abba, Father!'" - Romans 8:14-16 Who wants to receive a spirit of adoption? I've encountered many young people over the last 5 years who are adopted or in foster care, and adoption was rarely their first choice, or a choice they get excited about. So why wouldn't Paul say you have been given a spirit of "son-ship" or "daughter-ship"? It was a question that was ad-dressed when I watched a video series called the "Wild Goose is Loose" by Father Dave Pivonka, TOR (thewildgooseisloose.com): In Roman law if someone was adopted that person became someone new. If they had debts, they were forgiven. They were treated equal with any other children of the family they were entering - even given the same inher-itance. Also, in Roman Law if you gave birth to a child you didn't want, you were within your right to abandon that child. But if you chose to adopt, that right was revoked In context of Roman Law, Paul's words carry new weight. Receiving a spirit of adoption means that God chooses us despite our crazy imperfections, despite the conflicts within our hearts, despite the feelings of complete and utter failure. Over the course of the Easter Season leading up to Pentecost, my prayer is that the truth of this Spirit of Adoption will pierce our hearts and remind us that God doesn't choose favorites, rather, He choose each and everyone of us, not because if anything we can offer Him, but because God simply delights in us!
May 1: International Workers’ Day On this International Workers’ Day, think of all those children, women, and men, who put their health and some-times their lives at stake to work in mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo or sweatshops in Indonesia. Back in 1995, Development and Peace - Caritas Canada launched its People First campaign, where cards were sent to Nike and Levi-Strauss asking them to respect and reinforce codes of conduct in their overseas factories.
