    FIFA World CupThe ultimate showdown

[EN]No other sporting event captures the worlds attention like the FIFA WorldCup. Ever since the first competition staged in Uruguay in 1930, FIFAs flagshipevent has constantly grown in popularity and prestige. The original gold trophybore Jules Rimets name and was contested three times in the 1930s, beforethe Second World War put a 12-year stop to the competition. When it resumed, the FIFA World Cuprapidly advanced to its undisputed status as the greatestsingle sporting event of the modern world. Today its global significanceis highlighted by the awarding of the competition to East Asia (2002), Africa(2010), Eastern Europe (2018) and the Middle East (2022).
