INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TEACHER

OBJECTIVE:To review events from the first half of the novel and to provide repetitions of the target structures from the novel to the students. To that end, consider using TPRS®/CI strategies such as circling, checking for comprehension, and personalization as you play.

TO PREPARE:• Laminate each page of the BINGO set (including the event card pages) if you plan to

use it more than once, and save it for future classes. • Cut apart the 48 event cards (12 cards each on pages 3-6 of this document). • Procure BINGO chips (could be tiny scrap pieces of paper); enough for 25 per student.

TO PLAY:1. Students place a BINGO chip on the “Fiesta Fatal” box in the center of the board.2. The teacher draws one of the 48 event cards. 3. The teacher looks at the tiara on the card and announces which chapter the event is

from (Capítulo 1, 2, 3, 4, o 5). *Skip this step if you want to make the game more challenging!)

4. The teacher reads aloud the text from the event card. Read the text 3 times.5. Students examine the images in the column for the designated chapter. 6. If a student has an illustration that matches the event announced by the teacher in

the chapter that was announced, he or she marks it with a BINGO chip.7. Play continues until a student has five chips in a row; horizontally, vertically, or

diagonally.8. The teacher walks over to the student that called BINGO to look at and check his or

her marked illustrations. 9. The student describes each of the images in the target language to the teacher in his

or her own words. 10.After each description given by the student, the teacher confirms that s/he called that

event AND re-states it to the class, adding more information and/or correcting anything that the student said incorrectly. If the teacher did NOT call that event, the student replaces the other BINGO chips from events that were called, and play continues.

11.Once several students have gotten a BINGO, consider playing for two BINGOs (two complete rows), four corners, or blackout (the entire board).

Vanesa y su mamá tenían una relación conflictiva.

Vanesa era una niña desordenada porque tenía mucha ropa en el

sofá y en la cama.

Vanesa adoraba a su papá y ellos tenían una relación

muy buena.

Vanesa le preguntó a su mamá dónde estaban sus

zapatos.

El cártel quería información de Jorge. Tenía preguntas

sobre su identidad.

Vanesa se pusoel vestido y

estabamuy contenta

porque elvestido era fantástico.

Julieta no estaba contenta. Ella explicó, «Tu papá se

accidentó»

El teléfono de Julieta recibió un mensaje de texto. Era de Manuel,

un amigo de Jorge.

Julieta miró el mensaje de Manuel en su teléfono. «Rápido. Escapa. El cártel va a tu casa. Te

quiere eliminar»

Vanesa le explicó a Julieta que no quería escapar. ¡Quería ir a su fiesta!

Julieta corrió a su dormitorio y preparó una

mochila.

Vanesa preparó una maleta súper grande porque tenía

mucha ropa.

Julieta observó un coche negro frente a la casa. Dos hombres bajaron del coche.

Julieta gritó a Vanesa porque ella llevaba su

vestido de quinceañera.

Julieta anunció que era necesario escapar por la

azotea.

Para Vanesa, era imposible subir las escaleras rápidamente porque tenía una maleta súper grande.

Los dos hombres entraron violentamente por la puerta

de la casa.

Vanesa subió las escaleras rápidamente porque ya no tenía

la maleta súper grande.

Julieta saltó a la azotea de otra casa, pero Vanesa no

saltó.

Vanesa no quería saltar a la azotea de los García porque

llevaba su vestido de quinceañera.

Los dos hombres subieron las escaleras. ¡Uno de los

hombres tenía una pistola!

Vanesa y Julieta bajaron las escaleras y corrieron hacia

la puerta de la casa.

Julieta y Vanesa corrieron por una calle que tenía

muchas tiendas.

Vanesa entró en el mercado porque quería escapar de

los hombres.

En el mercado, Vanesa les pegó a muchas personas

con el vestido que llevaba.

Vanesa le insultaba mucho a Susana porque llevaba ropa

humilde.

Julieta seleccionó una camiseta y unos pantalones de hombre y

Vanesa se puso la ropa.

La señora tomó el vestido de quinceañera y corrió a la

salida del mercado.

Los dos hombres le interrogaron a Susana en el

puesto de ropa.

Los dos hombres salieron y corrieron a la derecha.

Julieta y Vanesa corrieron a la izquierda.

Julieta miró a la izquierda y miró a la derecha porque

quería tomar un taxi.Julieta y Vanesa subieron a

un taxi.

El taxista escribió un mensaje de texto en su

teléfono.

El taxi chocó con otro coche porque el taxista miraba su

teléfono.

El teléfono del taxista saltó por el aire y Vanesa lo

agarró.

Vanesa escribió un mensaje de texto con información falsa sobre el aeropuerto.

En el taxi, Vanesa se quitó la tiara y las flores.

De repente, el taxista se movió y agarró el teléfono

de Vanesa. Julieta gritó, «¡Corre!»

En la opinión de Julieta, no era buena idea tomar la combi a la Central de

Autobuses.

Un hombre subió a la combi. Él tenía una tiara en

la mano.

Vanesa y Julieta bajaron de la combi y caminaron a la

casa de un amigo.

Vanesa y Julieta tomaron un autobús desde México

D.F. a Ciudad Juárez.

Julieta estaba frustrada porque Vanesa y su papá tenían una relación muy

buena.

Julieta exclamó a Vanesa que el cártel quería

eliminarlas.

Julieta le ordenó a Vanesa que preparara una mochila.

Julieta le agarró el brazo a Vanesa y ellas corrieron

rápidamente.

Cuando Vanesa saltó, ella flotó en el aire por un

momento.
