A big hello to all my Five Star Friends! As I write this, it is the morning after quite a big snowfall. I am sure this letter finds almost all of us in the midst of a snowy and cold winter. I have not always been a huge fan of brutal Iowa winters, but this year I came across an article that changed my perspec-tive. It told of “wintering like a Scandinavian.” In some Northern European countries like Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, people look forward to the winter and all the special outdoor and indoor activities that come with the season. I have been trying to absorb this mindset and bundle up and get outside for short walks, if nothing else. You have to admit the sun glistening on the white snow can be quite stunning some days! I have a few club updates and reminders. If you have not liked our “Fidelity Five Star Club” Facebook page, I encourage you to. We have lots of trip updates on our page. A reminder that guests are allowed on Five Star extend-ed (multi-day) trips. Each Five Star member can bring one guest until we reach the registration deadline, and at that time if we still have openings more guests may be permitted. For local trips, guest policy may vary on a trip to trip basis. Five Star Club Gift Certificates are available at any branch! Add them to your birthday wish list and tell your kids. They can be purchased in any amount and redeemed for credit on any Five Star trip. What better gift than an experience! We have a ZOOM travel preview February 24th at 5:30pm. If you are not familiar with zoom, it is an online tool and members will be able to see video and hear audio of Kent from Mayflower and I discussing the lovely details of the Oberammer-gau Passion Play trip. Hello Five Star members!! Wow!! What a year 2020 was for everyone! The COVID ef-fects have been very far reaching and still having a significant influence on our daily lives and lifestyles. It seems such a long time ago since we have been able to hold meetings, have our monthly get-togethers, and of course the cancelation of so many great trips. I believe it’s too early to tell what 2021 has in store but please keep up with 5 Star Club news from our new director RaeAnn Klimesh who is so anxiously waiting to meet all of you and begin some travel opportunities. Welcome Betty!!

I would like to start out with a great big Welcome. I have just accepted this posi-tion so I ask for your patience while I am learning the ins and outs of one day trips. I will be coordinat-ing the day activities and events in and around the Dyersville and Dubuque area, while working with RaeAnn as she accompanies groups on longer, ex-tended travel. I hope that you are all staying warm. As it is said in the song, “It’s Cold Outside!!!”

As the holidays have wound down this is a good time for me to explore new opportunities. I am ex-cited to meet you all soon. Here is a little about me. I am an empty nester and only have one child. My daughter Tracy and her husband Matt live in the Se-attle, Washington area along with their dog Stella. I was blessed with my first granddaughter Frances this past summer. Even though there was a pandemic, I was able to travel to the Great Northwest to see her and we now skype on a reg-ular basis. Once you get to know me you will find out many things as I love to talk about my family (and of course show lots of pictures). In my spare time I like to bake, quilt and enjoy walks with my dog Odie.

I would love to explore the area and would appreci-ate any suggestions of places you would like to visit. Excited to meet all of you!

Will your tax bracket change in 2021? Each year the tax rate schedules are adjusted for inflation. That could result in your income being subject to a higher or lower tax rate in the new year. It’s especially important to check your tax bracket for this year if your taxable income was lower in 2020, due to:• Experiencing a reduction in full or part-time work-related income during the pandemic• Taking less income from your investment portfolio to avoid cementing loses during periods of increased market volatility• Suspending required minimum distributions (RMDs) under the CARES Act• Other circumstances resulting in a tempo

For tax year 2021, the top tax rate of 37% will apply to income above $523,600 for individuals ($628,300 for married couples filing jointly), compared to income above $518,400 for individuals ($622,050 for married couples filing jointly) in 2020.

The Standard Deduction Increases in 2021The standard deduction increases to $12,550 for single filers ($25,100 for married couple filing jointly) for tax-year 2021, up from $12,400 ($24,800 for couples) for 2020. Taxpayers over age 65 taking the standard deduction receive even more. For single filers age 65 and older, the standard deduction increases by $1,700 to $15,750. Joint filers can increase the standard deduction by $1,350 each for a total of $27,800 if both joint filers are age 65 or over. Keep in mind, if you’re considering itemizing on your 2020 or 2021 returns, your total tax deductions will need to exceed the amount of your applicable standard deduction for that tax year to make itemizing worthwhile.Taxes are one of the biggest risks to income in retirement.
