PRESS KIT 2013

Food For Your Senses asbl The Food For Your Senses Festival is organized by Food For Your Senses asbl, a non-profit organization. Other than the festival, the FFYS asbl organizes shows and events, among which the 'FFYS Discovery' concerts, and the 'Eldo Showcase by FFYS' series.

History In 6 years of existence, the FFYS has not only achieved to become a must-go for every alternative music lover but arguably grew to one of the main events of the Luxembourgish cultural landscape. All of this without neglecting its founding spirit: giving local talents a unique platform to prove themselves on a big stage. This is what motivated a group of teenagers to found the 'Rock de Steier' festival in the basement of their villageʼs elementary school in Tuntange. We were writing the year 2002 and organizational talent, passion for music and loads of blood, toil, sweat and tears made of this one-day festival an annual meeting point for local music lovers. The event grew bigger from year to year and the dark basement became too small for what the organizers had in mind... The Food For Your Senses Festival was about to see the light of day. The first official edition of the Food For Your Senses Festival took place on May 25th 2007. Three stages, spread throughout the village, offered 30 shows to approximately 1500 visitors, among which an increasing proportion of foreign music lovers. The following edition constitutes a milestone in the eventʼs history: for the first time, the festival was spread over two days. Due to the growing success and the will to extend the Food For Your Senses Festival 2010 took place on a site located outside of the Tuntange village. Over the three days, approximately 6000 visitors came to see 90 acts, to which a small art and photo exhibition was added. In 2011, 3000 daily visitors found their way to the first outdoor festival of the year, doubling all figures compared to the previous yearʼs edition! The art exhibition was further developed and became a real part of the event. 2012 represents another milestone in the Food For Your Senses History, as another dimension was added with the Sensarea. Focusing on the 5 senses and centered around the exhibition, this interactive communication space offered the visitors a place to exchange and to retreat from the stage areas. Centered around the art's exhibition, the Sensarea offered benches, tea, oriental food, massages, a garden, workshops as well as a small stage with poetry slam and performances. Every day, approximately 4000 people found their way to the newly defined music and arts festival.

FOOD FOR YOUR SENSES 2013 Location Even though Food For Your Senses was created in Tuntange and is widely associated with the village by many fans, the festival has arrived to a point where staying on the same site is synonymous with logistical costs that we can't bear. We are currently discussing possibilities with several villages, all within 15km from the last location. Line Up Approximately 70 bands/DJs will perform at FFYS. As usual, we will dedicate more than half of the program to bands from Luxembourg and the Greater region. Our first line ambition remains giving the local groups the chance to play on professionally handled stages, and to share these with bands that tour around Europe and the world. The three stages will be set up a bit differently: The Main Stage (capacity 3000) will feature Rock, Pop, Ska, Hip Hop and the festival headliners. The Tent (capacity 1500) will be focusing on Indie, Folk, Electro, and more atmospheric sounds. The 3rd Stage (capacity 800) will be offering rougher acts, Metal, Hardcore and Punk. The final line-up will be released mid-March. So far, the following bands are confirmed:

Hoffmaestro – SWE (Ska / Reggae) Hoffmaestro will deliver you a ska experience you would not even dare to dream of! Imagine a whole football team of crazy Swedes ready to give it all just to make you skank, dance, and jump like a hyperactive mountain goat on speed! No wonder they were hired to shake last year's Rock am Ring and Hurricane Festival awake. These guys will surely be one of the wildest highlights of this year's Food For Your Senses. Make sure to hydrate enough and to wear the right shoes!

Miriam Bryant - SWE (Soul / Pop)

Miriam Bryant's song “Finders Keepers” has given the music world a lot to talk about. Her incredibly soulful voice can easily compete with Grammy winner Adele. Furthermore, Miriam is a phenomenon on stage; the Swedish singer captures her audience with her emotionally loaded performances. In Sweden, she's already won the denomination “Breakthrough Artist of 2013,” and we're sure it won't take long until the rest of Europe notices that Miriam Bryant is an unique artist with enormous potential. Her debut album will come out just in time for the Food For Your Senses, and we are looking forward to hearing her brand new songs performed in front of you!

Versus You – LU (Punk Rock) Versus you without any doubt are THE local punk rock band! During their 8 year-long career the band has delivered a whole bunch of heavy rocking hymns such as “loyalty,” “the mad ones,” or “where did our talents go.” Furthermore, they have toured the world with the likes of NOFX, the Flatliners, and Propagandhi. Versus you's powerfully arranged compositions perfectly accompany Eric Rosenfeld's incomparable voice that sounds like someone was boiling

nails in his throat!

XXYYXX - US (Chillwave / Electronic) Marcel Everett, better known as XXYYXX, has gained prominence within indie and electronic music culture with his ethereal and dreamy self-produced sound. The 17 (!!!) year old wonder-boy from Orlando works from his bedroom and uses self-made synthesizers. The sounds that come out of it

will transport you to another world making your mind transcend the narrowness of material reality. His looped beats and melancholic ambiances can surely compete with the likes of James Blake.

Hacktivist - UK (Djent Metal / Crossover) You enjoy Rage Against the Machine but they're not even close to Metal enough for you? Listen carefully because Hacktivist might be just what you need! Imagine mind-blowingly brutal riffs combined with powerful hip hop hooks that for once sound logical and natural. These Brits will delight all the headbangers at Europe's most prestigious heavy music festivals such as Rock Am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting, and With Full Force! Just be one of the them and accept the challenge to survive their devastating live show!

SAM - GER (Hip Hop / Pop) Did you have the chance to see CRO at his devastating show at the Rockhal? If yes, than you exactly know what SAM is about! After publishing some self-produced tapes, CRO's label Chimperator fell immediately in love with SAM and signed the German rappers. The band formed around the brothers Samson and Chelo are specialists in producing

smooth hip hop tunes that just won't get out of your head! There must be a reason for why these guys are opening for grandmaster CRO himself...

The Computers – UK (Rock ʻnʼ Roll / Soul) Don't let the name of these fine gentlemen mislead you. No electronic fuss or computerized gimmicks around here but just good ole punk'n'roll! The Exeter-based band isn't bullshitting around but simply bundles the rough energy of hardcore and punk and mixes it with groovy soul and rock'n'roll elements. It is no secret that the Computers are experts in converting crowds in mesmerized dance'n'pogo masses. We challenge you to stand still while the Computers

play their prophetic songs such as “music is dead” or their brand new track “disco sucks.”

Daniel Norgren – NOR (Blues / Folk / Rock) This bearded Norwegian man's songs smell like sorrow, passion, and honesty. His retro sound is right in between lo-fi blues and Dylan-esque folk. Open your ears to his rough voice and let him share with you the lessons this life has taught him. His direct and unconventional songwriting brings to mind one of the genre's masters, Daniel's friend The

tallest Man on Earth.

Benoit Martiny Band – LU (Jazz / Postrock) You simply can't combine Jazz and Heavy Rock! Well, the Benoit Martiny Band will prove you wrong! The band formed around jazz drummer Benoit Martiny is composed by musicians with the most diverse backgrounds you can imagine. How they achieve to organically mingle complex Jazz elements to experimental post-rock and over-driven

grunge guitars with such an ease remains truly amazing! Elegant, powerful, and playful. These are the adjectives to describe this unique combo.

Hurricane Dean – GER (Indie / Post / Rock) The winds blow heavy on the East Frisian coast. This might be one of the reasons why Hurricane Dean's blend of post-punk and indie sounds so rough and powerful. Their songs have the dynamics of a Northern sea storm. A compelling beat hits you again and again and the guitars push you around with their playful pickings: slow, too fast, up and down. Ian Bleeker, the band's vocalist, will make sure you won't get drowned in their hectically rocking sound by guiding you through their vigorous songs.

Daily Vacation - LU (Post Rock / Indie) The prestigious French music magazine “Les inrockuptibles” described their debut album “Yumaque” as a dangerous record you shouldn't venture in without the necessary precautions. This is a perfect description for their sound. First, this Luxembourgish band tries to lure you into their innocent sounding post-rock landscapes, but then, just when you're least expecting it, they'll kidnap you for an abyssal ride through valleys and heights of over-driven riffs, tenacious bass lines, and diabolic rhythms.

The Fitness – LU (Party Rock) Put on your flashy leggings, a neon tank top, and take your last sip of Gatorade because we guarantee you'll sweat your ass off with the Fitness! These lads were sent by God to save the world from an excess of good taste, complicated songs, and most of all, boring concerts! Since 2010, this dirty bunch of Luxemburgish white trash has done its best to fulfill

the heavenly mission. The Fitness have shaken all of the country's venues, polluted the internet with videos exhibiting their most intimate parts, and delivered us pieces of urban poetry such as the delicate track “born in porn.” Just like Jesus, the Fitness will soon die for our sins. So make sure you don't miss these guys at Food For Your Senses for one of their very last concerts!!!

An Apple A Day - LU (Metal / Deathcore) An Apple a Day keeps the sensitive ears away! Be warned, these young lads from Luxembourg master all the skills it takes to produce the finest blend of Deathcore and Metal. With their first EP “The Fall of Thera” under their belt, they strive to conquer the hearts of headbangers all over the country, and trust us, they're doing well! After firing their

double-bass ryhthmed guitar inferno at the most diverse Luxembourgish audiences, they're ready to put a spell on this year's Food For Your Senses.

Coely – BE (Rap / Hip Hop) The 19 year-old lady from Antwerp city has definitely been one of this year's Belgian hotshots. The charm of Coely's cheeky rhymes and powerful voice has conquered all of Flanders' indie radio stations, usually not so keen on hip hop. This is because Coely exactly knows how to wrap her public around her finger with her grooves that perfectly balance

powerful hip hop parts and smooth melodies. We warn you: resistance is useless!

Seed To Tree – LU (Folk / Indie / Pop) Indie-folk is currently one of the hippest music genres. However, Luxembourg had to be very patient to finally see a talented homegrown folk band see light of the day. Seed to tree is definitely the long awaited messiah! Georges, the band's frontman, has a voice that combines the determination of Marcus Mumford with Damien Rice's sensuality. Their

songs have this rare quality that elevates them to immediate hymns, catchy and soulful at once. It is not by accident that their track “Broken Down” was one of 2012's most important local hits.

Shoot The Girl First – FR (Electro/Metal/ Hardcore) 2 million views on Youtube is something quite rare for a band this hard and heavy. However, this is the exact amount of views STGF's first video “Last Breath for a Capulet” has reached to date. Their name, inspired by a quote from a French movie, matches the band's main source of

inspiration: cinema. On the musical level, the Frenchmen enjoy experimentation. While their sound is mainly made out of metalcore and post-hardcore elements, they don't mind flirting with more exotic music genres such as electro or trance.

Blackbird Blackbird – US (Dream Pop / Electronic) The San Francisco-based project around wunderkind Mikey Marage evolve in a quite unique psychedelic folktronica universe. Anthemic, dream-driven themes inspire Blackbird Blackbird's work, where layers of electronic texture drape over organic sounds and ghostly vocals. Within the

elongated song structures, Blackbird Blackbird harnesses thematic elements of dynamism and composition to create depth and complexity, while never losing sight of his pop sensibilities.

Video: ALL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyHG_CPOqnw

Slow Magic – US ( Dreamwave) The American band Slow Magic is shrouded in mystery. They are a bit like the attractive and shy boy/girl you see at a party - who is that stranger? That hair, that dress! Who's he/she here with? You ask the host, but they don't have any idea. Everyone seems too shy to go up and speak to him/her. And so you're content with just gazing quickly, taking sly looks

while nuzzling your cocktail nonchalantly, tapping your foot to the beat. The only thing certain about Slow Magic is that their deliciously dreamy lo-fi electro will trigger more intriguing mental journeys in you...

Sensarea Centered around the Sensibition, the FFYS Arts Exhibition, the Sensarea offers the visitors the possibilty to withdraw from the stage zones into a little world of its own: a garden, massages, a tea bar, workshops and a little stage for poetry and readings. Present for the first time in 2012, the Sensarea will be a bit bigger this time, and more open towards the rest of the festival site. The aim of the Sensarea is to create a space of exchange, a place where discussions thrive and where art meets society.

Camping Shop After the camping's success in 2012, the camping area will be expanded. Also, for the first time, the camping will have a shop, set up by FFYS in collaboration with PALL CENTER.
