Rothsay FFA Advisor Rita Olson stated, “I couldn’t be prouder of the small animal’s team, they have always worked hard, they always improve and always win.” Other than contests, there was a farm show taking place with many booths set up. It was anything from car dealerships to farm drainage. The students were able to check out the booths and see what everyone was displaying. When asked about her experience at the competition Hannah Cuhel stated, “It was a fun day. I always enjoy getting to compete. It was also great to be able to see all the businesses with their booths.” FFA Groups Attend Crop Show And Novice Procedure By: Lily Elshaug Friday, February 1, the Rothsay FFA Ag seventh and eighth graders participated in the Conduct of Chapter Meetings event, otherwise known as the Novice Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event (CDE). The team which consisted of President Conrad Stockinger, Vice-President Landen Kjelgaard, Secretary Peyton Kadel, Treasurer Sydnie Molter, Reporter Ben Lyon, Sentinel Jasmine Marty, and Student Advisor Jeremy Rasmussen, took 2nd place. “I enjoyed the experience of being President and I felt more confident than most people. I was surprised that we actually got second,” states Conrad Stockinger, President. Advisor Rita Olson says, “You might outgrow the jacket, but you’ll never outgrow the experience.” For the presentation portion of this CDE, the members enter a room with judges and are given 1 minute to look over a card that contains a main motion and 4 assigned parliamentary procedure abilities. They then perform the FFA Officer opening ceremonies, demonstrate the assigned motion and abilities on the card, complete 3 discussions/person, and complete the FFA closing ceremonies all within a 13-minute time frame. They are deducted 2 pts per second that they are over the time limit. At the end of the demonstration each member is asked an oral question relating to the demonstration or parliamentary procedure according to Robert’s Rules of Order. They all also complete a 25-question exam. CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 Senior forward Cole Weets was asked for his take on the opportunity to which he responded, “It was an astonishing experience and I feel thankful to have had the opportunity to play there.” Unfortunately, the Tigers were not able to end the night with a win, but they did learn a lot. When asked what he thought the boys were able to take away from their experience, Coach Fuhs said, “I think, more than anything, it gave our kids an opportunity to play on a bigger stage. It’s kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity for most of these kids, so I think that’s the biggest take away is just giving these kids an experience that they’ve never had before.” After their game, the team and Tiger fans who came were able to enjoy a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets. It was a real nail biter and the boys saw the Timberwolves just barely lose with an end score of 107-106. It made for a great experience for all who were able to attend.
