NATIONAL FFA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEETING

CONGRESSMAN JERRY LITTON - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

His theme - "Corrmunicating with Congress". Congressman Litton is a former State President and National Secretary of the FFA. He is co-owner of the famed Litton Charolais Ranch. He is spearheading the current effort to unite American Agri-cu l ture behind one voice - to close the communications gap between producer and consumer. 1973 FFA CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS

The 46th National FFA Convention will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, October 16-19, 1973. As the nation's largest youth convention, it is expected to attract over 14,000 to the Municipal Auditorium.

This year's convention is one day longer than previously and will convene with an official business session at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday afternoon. A Vesper Program will be held at 7:30 that evening.

The official opening session will be Wed­nesday morning and will be highlighted by an address by the Honorable George C. Wallace, Governor of Alabama.- A business session will be held during the afternoon while the evening session will feature the finals of the National Public Speaking Contest.

The presentation of the National Proficiency Awards will highlight the Thursday morning ses­sion. The American Fanner Degree will be con­ferred on a record 564 FFA members that afternoon. The evening session will feature the "Stars Over America" Pageant with the traditional naming of the Star Farmer and Star Agribusinessman of America.

Winners of the National Contests held throughout the week will be announced on Friday morning. International guests will be recog­nized. The Annual FFA Alumni Association Meeting will be held during the afternoon, and it will be FFA Day at American Royal Livestock and Horse Show. The traditional Firestone Show that evening will signal the end of the convention.

Six special working committee meetings will be held prior to the meeting to help plan next year's Program of Work. The meetings will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., and each state is asked to have one representative serve on each of these committees. "LEGION OF MERIT CITATION"

The first presentation of the "Legion of Merit Citations" will be made at the Annual Meeting. The purpose of this award is to recognize the real leaders who build the FFA Alumni Association. Everyone who signs up 10 or more new members is eligible. To apply, send their names, along with your own, to the FFA Alumni Office and indicate that you are applying for the award.

The presentation will be made in order according to states. Help make your state well represented at this first presentation and be among the first to receive this prestigious award -- act today to build the FFA Alumni and sign up 10 new members.

To insure no one is left out of this first presentation, a special provision has been established to allow application up to the day before the presentation. Bring applications in-hand to the National Conven­tion and present them at the Alumni Booth before Thursday and you will receive the award. (If you cannot attend the Conven­tion, your Citation will be mailed to you.) Watch future issues of the Newsletter for the recipients.

FFA ALUMNI ELECTION

The FFA Alumni Council election results for the North Atlantic and Pacific Regions will be announced at the Annual Meeting .) The elec­tion was conducted by mail ballot to the mem­bership and the following candidates have been nominated: North Atlantic Region - Phillip Alampi, New Jersey; Richard Waybright, Pennsylvania: Pacific Region - Harry Epler, Wyoming; Harold Stepper, Montana.

The proposed Constitutional Amendment, to establish a representative system for voting at the Annual Meeting by state in proportion to membership, has been submitted to the membership for vote. The results will be announced at the Annual Meeting.

LOCAL AFFILIATE IDEA!

This is the year to conduct Farm-City Week activities in your comnunity. National Fann­City Week is November 16 through 22, so it is not too early to make plans. The National Fann-City Council has informed us they are anxious to work with local FFA Alumni Affiliates to conduct Farm-City Week activities.
