India got its independence from the British on 15th of August 1947. From that year 15th August is celebrated as Independence day of India.

After getting independence from British, India made their own constitution on 29th November 1949. And implemented it on 26th January 1950. After that each year 26th January is celebrated as Republic day

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi(1869-1948) was a Indian nationalist leader, who lead our country to independence. His birth day is celebrated each year as Gandhi Jayanti.
