DANCE

Andrea Gunnlaugson Furlan

Growing up in Manitoba, Andrea trained with the Brandon Dance Ensemble under Barbara Ehnes

before auditioning for and moving to professional training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School at

16. She made her professional debut in Rigoletto with the Manitoba Opera Association in 1988 and

then Swan Lake with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company in 1989 in

Vancouver. Andrea trained with the RWB until 1991 then continued her

professional training and graduated from Winnipeg’s School of Contemporary

Dancers before moving to Vancouver in 1993.

Over a 20 year professional career, she has had the honor of working with some

of the most prominent BC and Canadian choreographers and dance companies;

training and performing with the likes of DanceCorps, DanStabat, Lola Dance,

Katherine Labelle, Peter Bingham, Machine Noisey, Battery Opera, Winnipeg

Contemporary Dancers, Nicole Mion, Deborah Dunn, Jai Govinda Dance,

Mascall Dance and Wild Excursions Performance Society to name a few;

travelling across Canada, Tours to Germany and the the Croatian Dance festival

and in 2006 performing with Holy Body Tattoo in LA in 'Monumental' - a wild ride of a career,

ending in an injury that ceased all performance in 2006/07.

Since retiring as a performer, Andrea has focused on adjudicating festivals across Canada and

teaching workshops and master classes. She was appointed Regional Program Officer of the DTRC-

BC in 2004, running the BC office until 2012 and coordinating workshops and educational seminars

for emerging and professional dancers. Focusing on assisting the dance community politically and

spiritually, a tremendously rewarding position. Andrea is a founding member of CADA-BC, Made in

BC- Dance on Tour and the '605 Collective'. She remains active as a board member of the '605' and

most recently joined the Frank Venebles Theatre board in Oliver, BC.

Andrea is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her passion, love and expertise with the festival.

She wishes all participants the best of luck and most importantly, the most fun and positive energy

possible!
