POLLEN COUNT Rock Covers

“Truly original, just like the original”, is the perfect epithet that describes The Pollen Count. A bandperfectly suited to their task, who between them have played with and supported such luminariesas Sir Elton John, Joe Cocker, Santana, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, The Who and Bob Dylan andgraced the stages of such iconic venues as The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena and Glastonbury.

They deliver a truly wonderful sound, passionate and heartfelt renditions of much beloved songs, delivered with a technical experience and attention to detail that is simply staggering. To see thisband live is an incredible musical journey.

UNCLE FUNK 70’s

Few bands these days can hold an audience spellbound for hours on end. Fewer still can ignite aparty from their opening number, and simultaneously blow away even the most cynical of musoswith their technical dexterity. And you’ll see a hell of a lot of bands before you witness an act thatwear the sexiest outfits that wouldn’t have been allowed in the 70’s, leap offstage to join thecrowd, and still brew up a disco storm as powerful as that of the mighty Uncle Funk & The BoogieWonderband!

“Look out George Clinton!” warned the UK’s leading music magazine, Mojo “Uncle Funk & TheBoogie Wonderband is a collection of badass musical muthas who will stoke up the disco infernountil they reach glitter ball meltdown!”

Are you getting the picture yet? Uncle Funk & The Boogie Wonderband is a gig experience like noother – crazy enough to get any party started, but musically hot enough to keep the funk rollingall night, with every song a stone-cold classic from the heyday of the Good Times.

MONMOUTH FESTIVAL ENSEMBLE Orchestra

The Monmouth Festival Ensemble - our ‘in-house’ music group - has built a reputation in recentyears for quality and innovation, presenting beautiful music that is not often performed. Theensemble comprises professional musicians from the Monmouth area alongside students of theRoyal Welsh College of Music and Drama, directed by Chris Petrie.

Tonight’s programme is inspired by the Parisian Belle Époque; a golden age of artistic excellenceacross the turn of the twentieth century. In 1879 the pre-eminent flautist Claude-Paul Taffanelfounded the Société de Musique de Chambre pour Instruments à Vent (Society of Chamber Musicfor Wind Instruments) in Paris. He commissioned many composers of the period, including somethat will be heard in this concert, such as Émile Bernard’s Divertissement and Andre Caplet’s SuitePersane (Persian Suite).

UK FOO FIGHTERS Rock

Not many tribute bands get invited on stage to perform with their heroes but UK Foo Fightersfrontman Jay Apperley made history when he was personally asked on stage by none other thanDave Grohl himself to perform ‘White Limo’ with the actual Foo Fighters!

Fans of the UK version know that rarely is a tribute performed with such obvious love and passionfor the music; lookalike and sound-alike Jay Apperley becomes rock legend Dave Grohl both vocallyand slinging a guitar. Piling through hit after hit, the band perform all the classics - such as ‘Everlong’and ‘Best of You’ alongside brand new material from the Foo’s new album ‘Sonic Highways’. Theyabsolutely nail the true vibe of a Foo’s live experience, playing all the singles with extra parts andthe sing-along bits as well.

SKY VALLEY MISTRESS Rock

Sky Valley Mistress mean business as they come swaggering out of Blackburn to set hips shakingand pulses racing with a blend of dirty blues and raw rock and roll.

With clear influences from legendary rock and roll bands, such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, the band have applied this classic, mature craftsmanship to their songs with a powerful andassertive edge, giving them a refreshingly familiar sound.

THE VITAMINS Rock

The Vitamins are a three-piece rock & roll group that play pop songs with electric guitars. Formedin 2012 in the corner of their local bar with a plan of writing songs like Sam Cooke as played byBlack Sabbath, the Vitamins are Dick Phillips (vocals & guitar), Olie Swift (bass) and Neil Baldwin(drums). The band released their debut single, ‘Keys To The Limousine,’ on 7” vinyl in 2013. Describedby BBC 6 Music as “reminiscent of early Black Keys and The White Stripes,” the track gained repeatairplay on XFM and BBC Radio in support of a launch show at Camden's Barfly.

Building a reputation for fully-charged live shows after sharing bills with bands like Dingus Khan,Casual Sex, Love Buzzard and more, the band’s second single was a song about 1950’s Mexicanwrestling called ‘El Santo vs Los Vitaminas.’ The sold-out cassette release came with the same levelof acclaim - the Huffington Post describing it as “proper balls out, testosterone-fuelled action.”

TURRENTINE JONES Soul

The anchors of the Turrentine Jones sound are Julian Neville, whose slicing, fuzzed riffs draw acomparison to Steve Cropper, and Thomas Scotson, who provides much of the groove with hisfloating organ lines. In 2009 Neville moved to England from his native Australia and began searchingfor musicians, where he met (now former) drummer Chris Carcamo. By late 2010, and with theaddition of organist Thomas Scotson, they officially became Turrentine Jones and togetherperformed their first show at North London Tavern in London.

The band’s sound is rooted in modern garage rock and blues rock, while frequently being referredto as a cross between Booker T. & the MG’s and the Rolling Stones.

In 2013 the band hit their stride, and the growing radio support of BBC Introducing elevated themonto the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury Festival performing to resounding success.

BIG MAC’S WHOLLY SOUL BAND Soul

They are celebrating 25 years together and have played from Soho to Cairo with everyone fromJools Holland to Edwin Starr.

Louder Than War said “They have the look, the sound, the lot. Dressed smartly in black, there is aproper feel of professionalism, with just that little bit of gangster-chic thrown in for good measure, with the heavies on the right on the brass, the ladies on the left on backing vocals, and Mike “BigMac” McNamara himself, proudly centre stage, with something of the look of Al Pacino about him”.

James Whale said “I have to say if I was having a party I would be getting hold of Big Mac's WhollySoul Band...makes you wanna dance, sing and ding a ling!”.

REDRACER Rock

RedRacer are four incredibly established performers, producers and songwriters in the form ofJohn Hogg (Frontman/Bass), Sean Genockey (Lead Guitars), Jesse Wood (Guitar) and Dan Kavanagh(Drums). The band has a gift for honing classic rock muscle for a post-punk, futurist era, but there’san unashamed heart beating at the centre, a vulnerability among the riffage which is trulycompelling.

When RedRacer released their first cut from their debut album, entitled ‘Put It Out’, it immediatelygarnered the band masses of support on the airwaves with plays from Radio 1, BBC London, XFM,Amazing Radio, Team Rock Radio, and it was playlisted at Kerrang Radio. Their debut album,‘Define’, was then officially released on Dissention Records and Artist Management.

CHINA CRISIS Pop/80’s

China Crisis’ distinctive AOR-fuelled pop songs charted in the 80’s when they spent a total of 92weeks in the charts. Who said the Eighties were all bad? China Crisis, for instance, were largelyconsidered one of the better musical things about that much-maligned decade.

They formed in 1979 in Kirkby on Merseyside, with a core band of vocalist/keyboardist Garry Dalyand guitarist Eddie Lundon. The band was signed to Virgin Records and recorded their debut album,Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms: Some People Think It’s Fun to Entertain, which was releasedin December 1982.

A re-release of ‘African & White’ became China Crisis’ first hit in the UK, reaching number 45 in theUK Singles Chart. When the follow-up single, ‘Christian’ made UK number 12 in early 1983, thisbrought them to national prominence along with ‘Wishful Thinking’. The band toured Europe andUSA during the late eighties and performed in front of crowds as large as 87, 000 in Germany.
